2000: BC - Detailed Friday Update, 12/8/00

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC

Leo to Greenlee: "Yesterday you said that Laura was pushed. Now you're saying she jumped. Which was it?"

Mindy to Laura: "Ms. Young Enchantment has a new name around school -- Super Slut!"

Dixie: "David, what's wrong?"

Liza to Tad at the Seaview Obstetrics & Gynecology dept: "Tad? What are you doing here?"

Diver on Ryan's yacht: "We found something."

ERICA'S HOUSE

When questioned by Leo, Greenlee feigns innocence of any knowledge of how Laura went overboard the night of Ryan's party. When pinned for an answer, Erica bursts into the room, furious at Leo, calling him irresponsible and negligent. She had to track Bianca down in New York based on a hot tip from a CLASSMATE, and she demands an explanation!

Leo tries to explain that he didn't have much choice, but Erica steamrolls ahead, saying she knows everything. Greenlee: "Finally!" Leo tells Greenlee to hush up as Erica goes on and on about catching Bianca and Sarah in the hotel room and them fessing up to everything. It SOUNDS like Erica knows that Bianca is gay, of course, but she then continues about the horrible Sarah stealing Bianca's boyfriend and Sarah's horrible mother, etc., etc., etc. Leo looks momentarily relieved that Bianca's secret is still safe, but says he's sorry that Bianca had to go through all that. Erica says sorry is HARDLY enough! When she tells him to do something, she expects him to follow through with it. Greenlee chips in that it wasn't Leo's fault because had to stay and help her find her lost dog. That doesn't sit well with Erica, who states that obviously Leo chose a DOG over Bianca. Leo tells Greenlee to wait outside, but Greenlee says it's cold and, besides, she's not going to be told to wait outside like a puppy every time she goes over there. Leo asks for a moment with Greenlee and tells her to let him put out the current fire and then she can have him for the rest of the day. "Promise?" she simpers. He promises and she skips outside.

Erica tells him that the solution to Greenlee not being treated like a puppy when she comes over is to not have her come over. He changes the subject and asks what he can do to make this all better. She says she really WANTS to trust him. Bianca is still very upset -- what he can do is pick up Bianca after school and take her out. Take her to the movies; then BJs for dinner, then take her window-shopping at the mall and show her a good time. [Isn't Bianca still grounded?] He asks if she's really asking him to take Bianca out on a date.

Leo protests that taking Bianca on a date is NOT exactly in his job description. Erica says all she wants is for him to spend a little time with Bianca. He turned his back on Bianca when she went to New York -- is he going to turn his back on her again? Leo relents and Erica backpedals a little. She says she knows Bianca is a little strong-willed sometimes -- she's just trying to keep her in the right direction [would that be the straight and narrow direction?] Erica takes herself and her little purse upstairs.

Leo picks up his jacket and goes outside to Greenlee to tell her about Erica's request. Greenlee asks if he's supposed to make Bianca forget about her little girlfriend and the fact that she's gay. Leo says he's just supposed to make her feel better because she's still down about what happened in NY. Greenlee gives a dramatic, nasty, laugh and says: "Talk about denial. Can you imagine when this all hits the fan? The truth is going to turn Erica GRAY." Leo says Bianca is scared to death that Erica is going to hate her, so she's never going to tell her. She DOES needs a little cheering up right now. Greenlee: " Well, not from you. Drop her at the nearest lesbo bar and call it a day!" Leo tells her to STOP IT -- Bianca needs a friend right now! Greenlee: "No, she needs to come to terms with her life and move on with it. And you need to remove yourself from this whole Erica/Bianca drama." She tells him he doesn't need to solve all the teen angst in this town. Let Bianca and [she spits out the next word] LAUR-a find another shoulder to cry on. That reminds him that they were talking about Laura when Erica showed up. Greenlee knows something about how Laura went overboard and doesn't want to tell him. Greenlee frantically tries to change the subject, asking if he should be on his way to pick up Bianca. He stops her and she gives in, saying Laura WAS pushed -- she thinks. Leo has to drag it out of her over the course of several questions and she finally admits that she knows who pushed her: "Your pal Bianca." Leo gapes in disbelief.

He paces and asks in what universe Bianca would push Laura off a boat. Greenlee says this one. Why? Well Greenlee can't answer that, but she knows because she saw her do it. [For those of you just joining the show, GREENLEE is the one who pushed Laura off the boat in a fit of Libidozone- laced jealousy] Leo can't believe she saw the whole thing and didn't say anything until now. She blames it on the drug scrambling her brain. Then later she didn't think he'd believe her and she was right. Greenlee: "Think about the truckload of tragedy Binks has been through. Her father dies, her mother's on her butt 24/7, she's got one foot out of the closet, and obviously she was drugged and she flipped out and then she passed out." Leo asks why LAURA? Greenlee suggests that, since Bianca was calling for Sarah when she came out of it, maybe the drug affected her and she thought Laura was Sarah, and she wigged out when she saw "Sarah" with Leo. Leo thinks that's pretty far-fetched. Greenlee writes it off as being the drug, but she's absolutely sure it was Bianca. He asks her to swear on her grandfather's life. Greenlee just says: "Please." Leo gets up to find Bianca. Greenlee panics when she realizes he's going to confront Bianca about it. He says he can't just let it go and rushes off, leaving Greenlee on the porch. Greenlee: "Damn. Memo to self -- you need better lies!" She rushes to follow him.

PINE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

Laura and Bianca enter the gym, with Laura good-naturedly goading Bianca into telling her why she went alone to New York [does this mean the photo shoot is off?] Before Bianca can say much, Mindy, Shannon and Heather walk up. No one is wearing a PE uniform, and Mindy and Heather are showing a lot of skin [are they allowed to dress like that in HS PE now?] Laura also looks pretty hot in a white tank top, and she doesn't appear to be wearing a bra. Bianca, on the other hand, is wearing a shapeless T- shirt and gym shorts and has her hair in braided pigtails. Shannon immediately zeros in on Bianca and asks if Mommy Dearest turned everything upside-down looking for her. Bianca tells her she's sick -- doesn't she have anything better to do than rat her out to her mom? Shannon: "Hmmm, let me see -- nope!" [BTW, the actress playing Shannon looks like she was up all night partying] Shannon continues to pick on Bianca, asking if her mommy caught her in the act or found her picking up boys in Times Square. Laura steps in: "Shannon, I have a sticker for your locker. It goes, 'warning -- objects in mirror are dumber than they appear'." The girls ask if she's Bianca's pit bull/bodyguard. Laura says they're friends, a foreign concept to the cheesy cheerleaders. They pounce on that, saying their gaydar is up. Bianca jumps up and tells them to stop it and Laura tells them to knock it off. They rejoice in the reaction and Shannon asks: "Is it true, Laura? Are you the Super Slut's lesbo buddy?"

Laura: "What if I AM a lesbian? Do you have a problem with that?" Shannon: "Hey, go write your folk songs. What do I care? Just don't ask ME out -- I don't DO girl-girl." Laura says what a mature adult might think, but no one ever actually SAYS: "Of course not, Shannon, because that would be out of the ordinary for someone like you, huh?" Shannon: "Uh, YEAH." Laura: "Do you know how ordinary you are? [right out of American Beauty] Open up any teen magazine, and there you are -- a stupid ad for shampoo acne cream, and a pair of jeans." Shannon: "And what are you, some alternative lifestyle queen? Think that makes you special?" Bianca: "Laura IS special. She's her own person." Shannon starts to look a little uncertain. Laura: "You're just a trend, Shannon. And your time will come -- you'll just vanish like any other fad. You're like a picture in an old yearbook -- totally faded. Because you're just an image, anyway, and you're already disappearing." The cheerleaders all turn, one after the other, and do runway model struts out of the gym [LOL!]

Bianca thanks Laura for standing up for her. Bianca doesn't understand why they are picking on her. Laura says it's because she's Erica Kane's daughter. Bianca wryly says: "I thought that was supposed to make me POPULAR!" Laura says they are jealous because she refuses to be the person they think she should be. Bianca is smart, sweet and thinks for herself, so of COURSE they're jealous. Besides, she's FAR more interesting than Shannon ever COULD be. A mini-Ryan (Marcus) comes up behind them, says he just saw Shannon and asks if Laura is really a lesbian. Bianca rolls her eyes. Laura: "Are you my alternative?" [ROTFL!] Marcus says in her non-lesbian DREAMS! He reminds her of the photos she allegedly took of him in the shower. She asks if he's going blind yet [heh, heh]. He is supremely confident and says he KNOWS she's not a lesbian -- does she want to know why. Not particularly. He whips out a photo of her from the internet and asks if she gets royalties. He doesn't know why she gave up porn, because she's a natural! Laura is stunned. Bianca is sympathetic.

Laura and Bianca return to the gym [when did they leave?] and meet the applause and hoots of a crowd of kids passing porn photos of Laura around. Bianca says she'll tell everyone that Marcus doctored the photos like the tabloids do, putting people's heads on other people's bodies. Laura says it won't work because they're already on the web where anyone can download them. They'll follow her for the rest of her life! Bianca tells her that's not who she is anymore and it doesn't matter what the other kids think because SHE thinks Laura is a very strong, very cool person. She says Laura is the most awesome person she's met in a long time and she's not easy to impress. Laura brushes it off, saying Bianca's only known her a couple of months. Bianca continues, however, saying that Laura went through all that stuff as a kid and didn't let it cripple her. She wishes SHE had that kind of strength! Laura says Bianca is strong -- she just doesn't see it yet. Bianca looks very much like a little girl with her pigtails and woebegone expression.

TAD & DIXIE'S HOUSE

David is hyperventilating, and Dixie is trying to get him to tell her he's all right. He gets up and alternately clutches the wall and his heart. He insists he's all right as he moans and staggers. She demands that he tell her what's wrong. Putting his head in his hand, he whimpers that it's just this time of year -- he doesn't like to think about it. December is a long month for him. Everything he sees just reminds him of it. She keeps pushing, asking him what he remembers. He says he it all reminds him of how the Christmas season became the worst time of his life!

Dixie urges him to tell her about it. He says it's not usually this bad -- maybe it's because this is a REAL home, filled with WARMTH and LOVE! She asks what it was like at his house when he was growing up. He says Vanessa's house was filled with deceit -- smiles upon lies. But his father still loved her. That night they went out to a party and David decided to put up Christmas decorations himself. He was 12. He exhausted himself trying to untangle the Christmas lights that had just been tossed in the box from the year before. He went to bed. That's when their arguing woke him up. His father usually gave in, but this time he wouldn't back down, and Vanessa LOVES a good fight! Vanessa was taunting him and saying she wanted a divorce -- she'd found a REAL man. She said: "What are you going to do if I leave? You going to kill yourself?" She didn't think he had the GUTS! He was determined to prove her wrong, and he had a gun. When the police came, his father was still lying in David's arms, where he bled to death! David breaks into tears and melts into Dixie's comforting, motherly arms [not to mention bosom].

David breathes heavily, pulls his hand out of hers and removes his head from her breasts. He starts to cop a feel or just to put up stop-sign hands -- hard to tell -- but stops himself. He puts his head in his hands again and says he shouldn't have DONE this! He wonders why she keeps listening to him after everything he's done to her -- she almost lost her husband because of her! She tells him he doesn't have the POWER to do that! She was as much to blame as he was [oh, I beg to differ on THAT point!] David: "No. This isn't right. I can't. I'm not going to do it. I won't compromise your marriage, your family, everything that you hold dear because I've had some sadness in my life. I will not be the reason that you're unhappy, Dixie. I love you too much to want to hurt you in any way!" [I'm still trying to figure out if he's just playing her or if he's actually having an uncharacteristic attack of conscience and post-traumatic stress] Dumb-as-Dirt Dixie stares at him as if his declaration of love is a astonishing news.

SEAVIEW HOSPITAL

BTW, did you notice on Thursday that just before Liza called out to Tad when he was at the drinking fountain that Dr. Clader walked past him? Subtle. Nice touch :-)

Liza asks Tad why he's at the OB/GYN office. He says he's picking up something [just an STD or two -- frankly I've wondered since the early 80s why they haven't given him a herpes storyline] for Dixie, and quickly offers to walk her to her car. As they walk away, Leslie calls out to Tad, saying she thought he was going to wait for her. Liza looks between the two of them: "You're here together?"

Liza asks if Tad is waiting for Leslie, and Leslie volunteers that her car is dead and Tad offered to give her a lift home (don't they have AAA in PA?] Liza thinks that's wonderfully convenient. Leslie says she'll try it again ... you never know. Liza: "Or call the Auto Club." [heh, heh, heh] Leslie clops away and Liza asks what the Leslie thing was about. She doesn't believe a word of Leslie's explanation. Tad: "You think Leslie would lie?" [BWAHAHAHAAAAA!! Does a bear shit in the woods?] Liza points out that he didn't mention Leslie when he was walking out with her. Why would he leave with her if he was giving Leslie a ride? He asks if she's with the KGB and if he needs a lawyer [better call Leslie back] -- besides, he didn't LEAVE with Liza -- he was just walking her to her car. She says it's just that something is up and he's a bundle of nerves. He's got that man-guilt look on his face. She knows it because she's been the cause of it in the past. She puts 2+2 together and realizes that there's something going on between Tad and Leslie. Tad stares with an expression of pronounced man-guilt.

Tad says that's why he didn't tell Liza about waiting for Leslie in the first place because she always jumps to the wrong conclusion. Liza: "Oh, so I'm wrong? There's nothing going on?" Tad: "No!" The nosy nurse walks by and tells Tad: "I'm sorry for the wait, sir. We'll be ready for your test in just a moment." Tad jerks his head around and puts his chipmunk/jinkies face on as he thanks her. Liza asks why he's being tested. He says he wants to be sure there's no Libidozone floating around in his system after the party. She asks why he didn't just go to Jake, then. He says he didn't want the attention. She says she's read the headlines and knows that the drug puts people's libidos into overdrive. She remembers that the party was really crazy -- then she remembers seeing Tad at the party ... WITH LESLIE! Tad feigns total ignorance as Leslie walks back in saying her car is working now and she doesn't need a ride. She leaves, saying she'll see him at the office. Liza asks why they'll be seeing her at the office and he informs her that Leslie is now on retainer. Liza gives an oh-I-do-NOT-believe-THIS-crap laugh and tells him to just stop denying it. Tad gives a little-boy-caught-with-cookie-jar look and says it was the damn drug!

Later, Liza and Tad are sitting in plastic waiting room chairs moping as Tad wraps up his story about Leslie. He frets that Leslie is all weird on him and acting like there's more to it than just that one night, even though he's been trying to let her down gently. Liza states the obvious: "Well, evidentially she's not taking the hint." Tad: "You think?" Liza points out that making Leslie a corporate attorney doesn't help put distance between them. He tells her how Leslie forced that upon him in front of Dixie. She says that's OBSESSIVE! Tad explodes: "You have no idea! Liza, I'm serious. I think this girl's gone peanuts on me, you know? She's picked up where her sisters left off in high school!" Liza suggests he take a trip to Wall Street to allay investors fears about the ID.com PR nightmare and assure them that Chandler Enterprises isn't going to lose millions investing in their IPO. It will get Tad out of town for a while and leave Leslie with a little time to spin her wheels [this from the woman who ended up in a room next to Adam and then pretended to have sex with (an absent) Tad by screaming 'YES!' 500 times while slamming the headboard against the adjoining wall with her feet -- oh yeah, Leslie will just sit and spin her wheels ... NOT!] By then he'll get his test results back. Tad is very gung-ho about the idea and whips out his cell phone [hello, you're not supposed to use cell phones in the hospital!]

RYAN'S YACHT

A diver says he found something. Adam and a sunglass-beclad Marian worry that it belongs to Arlene. The diver hands a brooch [correctly pronounced like "roach" with a "b" in front of it] to Dimitri, wondering if it belonged to Alex. Edmund says it's the Marick family crest and that Gillian had given it to Alex. Dimitri grunts that she was wearing it the night of the party. He looks accusingly at Edmund and says: "the night she disappeared."

Dimitri asks if that's it. The diver says it was found on some pilings -- if anything else went overboard, it's probably been dragged out to sea by now. Edmund asks if he means even a body. The diver says very likely. Adam and Marian are standing a few feet away fidgeting and looking guilty as hell. Marian keeps adjusting her sunglasses. The go out on deck as Dimitri thanks the diver for his help. Adam and Marian give lip-service to poor Dimitri's dilemma, but are thankful that "one man's tragedy is another man's freedom". Marian says he's off the hook, but Adam says he still has to get a divorce. She says that can easily be rectified. He says it won't be so easy -- he has to go to Europe "find Arlene" and bring back the divorce papers signed -- with a few good stories about how well Arlene is doing among the Eurotrash. Marian is surprised that he's going to forge the divorce papers. [Why is she surprised -- wasn't SHE going to do it FOR him?]

Back inside, the brothers discuss Alex wearing the brooch that night. Dimitri says "no tears" -- he doesn't believe Alex is dead. Edmund asks where she is then. Dimitri says: "Why don't YOU tell ME?" Edmund squints his eyes at Dimitri. [Dimitri: "I'll see that squint and raise you a hands-on-hips!" Edmund: "Oh yeah? Well, I'll raise THAT with a GRIMACE!" Dimitri: "Oh yeah, well how about THIS!!!" He does lip-curls AND arm flaps. Edmund: "Bite me!" He turns and runs, however, when Dimitri's lip-curl reveals that his canines are growing about an inch a second as they face off.]

Out on deck, Marian can't believe Adam is taking HER advice. He could go to jail! He reiterates his plan and she finishes by adding that Liza can then marry the man she loves, although Marian cannot for the life of her understand what Liza sees in him. Adam counters that he could ask the same of Stuart.

Inside, Dimitri says he thinks someone removed the brooch from Alex's dress and threw it overboard to make it LOOK like she fell in [pretty flimsy brooch if it came off doing that, but her shoes and shawl did not]. Edmund chimes in that HE is the prime suspect, right? Dimitri thinks Edmund did it. Dimitri, arms flapping and finger pointing: "_I_ didn't say that!" Edmund does a fake confession of having done what Dimitri thinks he did. Dimitri wants the truth. Edmund: "What you would like is to blame me, so I'm trying to make it easy for you. What I did was I locked her into the special prison that I have for all my special victims. And I've been planning this ever since you magically reappeared and stole her from me." Dimitri: "NO, NO!!! I did NOT steal my WIFE from YOU!" Edmund: "The important thing is you never see her again. Alex is mine forever. Roll credits. The end." Dimitri: "You are one sick puppy, Edmund. You know that?" Edmund: "After all the garbage you've pulled in your life, how DARE you call me sick." He walks out. [I was riveted! The whole time I kept thinking: "Is that a plate in Dimitri's head?"]

As Edmund walks out and Dimitri looks like he's going to heave, Derek bops down the stairs. Derek tells Dimitri not to lose hope, even though the divers found the brooch. Dimitri cuts him off and says he does not believe Alex is dead, even though that's what Edmund wants him to believe. He still thinks Edmund threw the brooch into the water and he knows how to get him to admit it.

TAD & DIXIE'S HOUSE

Now standing, Dixie looks stunned as David apologizes and says he shouldn't have said that. When she asks, he denies loving her and tells her to forget what he said. He doesn't WANT to love her, and promises he won't feel this way for a long time. She says they both know it doesn't work that way. The phone rings and he tells her to answer it. She gives him a wounded look, then answers the phone with a shaky hello. It's Tad who tells her of his upcoming trip to New York. Dixie says okay and they hang up. When she turns around, David is gone.

PINE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

Now dressed, Bianca and Laura are walking through the hallway. The noise level is very high. Bianca yells that they should just get out of there. Laura looks over at the small, hostile, laughing crowd and suggests going over to slap them. Bianca thinks it's good that Laura is angry --it's an improvement -- but they'll live to fight another day. They walk back into the gym, but the conniving cheerleaders follow. Shannon taunts Laura and asks if they can touch the a famous porn star, then shoves her in the back. As the crowd disperses, Laura has an aural flashback of herself screaming: "HEEELLLLLPPP!!!!! HEELLLLPP ME!!!" Bianca asks if she's okay. Greenlee and Leo walk up behind Bianca as Laura says she remembers now what happened on the yacht. Bianca: "You mean when you fell overboard?" Laura says she didn't fall -- she was PUSHED! Leo stares and Greenlee looks away guiltily.

THE YACHT-O-QUESTIONABLE-DEATH

Derek asks Dimitri if he's sure this is how he wants to do it. Dimitri says yes, for now. Marian walks in one end and Liza steps in the other. They meet in the middle in surprise and Marian explains that she's there to see Ryan because she's selling the loft. [I thought that Greenlee and Leo were originally looking at the loft ABOVE Ryan's] Liza asks if Adam is there. He left, but Marian informs Liza about the brooch. Liza is horrified. Alex and Dimitri were just starting their lives together. In a CLASSIC, yet understated soap moment, Liza says: "What's happening? All these couples being ripped apart!" [I guess the Libidozone has affected both her long AND short-term memory] Marian asks what other couples she's talking about and Liza changes the subject, asking where Adam went. Marian said he's off to Europe to get a divorce from Arlene. Liza wants to follow [what about Colby?], but Marian says he'll be with Arlene and surely Liza doesn't want to get into the middle of all that! Liza points out what happened with Marian and Stuart and now Dimitri and Alex. She and Adam have wasted so much time already. She said the words "til death do we part" -- isn't it about time she started living the words? She runs out with Marian yipping at her heels. [Marian has not taken her glasses off during the entire episode. She's either going to show up with swollen eyes or extremely refreshed eyes. Let's watch, shall we?]

Derek says he has a lot of manpower on this and ineffectually [big surprise] asks Dimitri if he's SURE. [Why is Derek there at all? Are they docked in the infamous Pine Valley Ocean? Wouldn't they be in at least another city, never mind another state?] Dimitri shushes Derek and says he's SURE Edmund has Alex and he has a plan to get it out of him. Edmund dramatically swoops in, surprised to see Derek, and asks if they are conspiring. Derek informs him that Dimitri is going to file assault charges against Edmund. Dimitri is acting insufferable, folding his arms and grimacing at Edmund with a look of satisfaction. Derek wants to question him down at headquarters about the party [what does that have to do with the time he tried to choke Dimitri?] Edmund juts his chin in reaction to Derek saying that Dimitri thinks Edmund had one of these "episodes" at the party and he abducted Alex. Edmund correctly points out that that is a theory, the fantasy of an insecure man. Derek says that if he doesn't come quietly, he'll have to bring people in to TAKE him. Edmund says he'll go just to prove Dimitri wrong. Dimitri continues to be insufferably righteous as Edmund stops to glare balefully and accusingly at him.

FINAL SCENES

Tad walks in and apologizes for his trip to NY to babysit nervous investors. Dixie nervously tells him to do what he has to do -- she'll be fine. They hug as we hear the beginning of a scene with Leslie in her car talking to David on a cell phone. She pouts that every time she gets Tad alone, someone pops up. Today it was Liza. She has to get Tad alone, away from his family, his business and his friends. Is David listening? Did he have any luck with Dixie? He says he just left her and it's none of Leslie's damn business. She says she knows he doesn't kiss and tell. David: "Who says I kissed her?" She says she can tell SOMETHING happened -- he sounds like a man in love. David looks toward the ceiling in pain. She says she needs to go see Tad. David says he's left for the airport -- he thinks he's going to NY. He says he doesn't want to make this a long night [Night? The sun is shining, the gulls are squawking and Bianca and Laura are still at school.] As Leslie puts down her cell phone, the scene shows David hanging up his 500 set [a little telephony lingo] and stares painfully into the bright light that's been shining on him from his hotel room ceiling. [He hasn't smirked or gloated throughout the entire episode, so maybe his feelings of remorse and despair ARE genuine.]

ON THE NEXT AMC

At the hospital, Junior sees David with Dixie's face in his hands (in a waiting room area) and yells: "HEY! Get your hands off my mom!"

Greenlee grabs Bianca's wrists and says: "You're not going to cave, are you?"

At the shelter, Laura comes up behind Eliot and Brooke, yanks Eliot around and punch-slaps him in the face.

On the phone, Liza says to Adam: "Where are you?" Adam (in his office): "I'm, um, on the plane." Liza (appearing to stand in front of him) says: "Really?"

Irreverently submitted,

2000: BC - Detailed Friday Update, 12/1/00

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC:
Bianca to Leo: "I have to get to New York! Will you help me?" Leo: "Yeah, sure. What's in New York City?" Bianca: "Sarah."

Shannon to Erica: "Bianca's not in school -- I'm pretty sure she's going to New York ALONE."

Tad and Leslie passionately make out on the USS Fidelity.

Marian to Adam: "I never actually saw you kill Arlene -- you were covering up for HALEY, weren't you?"

PV HOSPITAL

David says he doesn't like the heart arrhythmia that Dixie had. She says it wasn't nearly as bad as the one that got her there in the first place, and she thinks THAT was due to something she had on the yacht. David paces and Dixie pesters him to let her go home. He leaves the room and walks over to a nearby nurses' station to melodramatically rue his actions on the yacht, seeming not to care about his oh-so-precious reputation. Leslie walks up and teases him about having a bad day. He tells her Dixie was admitted the night before. Leslie: "Yeah, I heard. Heart trouble, right? [hopefully] Is it terminal?" He stares at her.

David is not amused by her remark and she say she was just joking. She doesn't want Dixie Martin dead, but she DOES want her distracted by her cardiologist -- it will make things easier for her relationship with Tad. David scoffs at her use of the word "relationship". She tells him about Tad calling and asking to meet her at the boathouse. When he asks what Tad wanted, Leslie says: "He told me that I was beautiful and brilliant but that he's scared to leave Dixie." She seems to believe her twist on the story. David: "Did Tad actually say that?" Leslie: "More or less. I mean, his guilt meter is on high, but I'm working on that." He inquires as to the time she needs to snag Tad and she asks how long Dixie will be in the hospital. He doesn't know and changes the subject to ask why she's there. She says one of her clients is in the Psych Ward, having been found dancing naked in the fountain at the PV Inn, and the husband wants to sue, so Leslie is there to take her statement. David nonchalantly says that they've run toxicology tests and they all came back negative. Leslie wants to run MORE tests -- this could get BIG -- class action big! David oh-so-casually offers to run the tests for her and interpret the results. Leslie: "Is that so I keep my mouth shut about your plans to bed my lover's wife? Listen, forget about it, David. You don't owe me anything. It's been my PLEASURE." She walks away and David again puts his head in his hands as he shakes it in frustration at his predicament.

He walks into Dixie's room. Dixie is looking wan and there are dark circles under her eyes (but her hair is still perfectly curled in a tousled kind of way). She gives him a "look". Sounding like a hubby, he says: "WHAT? What it is? She demands to know if he's going to let her out of there. He grimaces and shifts his weight as he stares at her, then says he's keeping her there one more night for observation. A nurse walks in and cheerily asks if Mrs. Martin is getting sprung today. When David says Dixie will be staying another night, the nurse incredulously asks why. Predictably, David asks her to step outside. Once outside the room, he lambastes her for contradicting a doctor right in front of his patient -- he could have her job for that! The nurse bites her lip as he keeps her from apologizing. He storms back into the room and apologizes to Dixie. She says the NURSE seems to think she's okay. He says he's the DOCTOR -- he may be conservative on this issue, but Tad would have his head if he let her go when she was not completely over whatever it is that caused this episode. Dixie thanks him for respecting what her marriage means to her. David becomes tight-lipped.

David asks if she told Tad everything that had happened between them. She says yes, she told him about the two kisses. Tad as hurt, but he doesn't hold her to higher standards than he holds himself (flutter, flutter). He asks about Tad's slips in the past. Dixie says they've worked through all that and it won't happen again. They go back and forth as to whether he WOULD slip again. Dixie says they can't go through that again and Tad knows where she stands. David looks satisifed. They joke about Tad being a lifer and how David might be a lifer, too, someday if he meets the right woman. Ha, ha, ha ...

BJS

Liza and Tad are dining while Bob Dylan music plays on the jukebox. She tries to get him to notice the 50-ton diamond on her hand, but he's preoccupied and doesn't take the bait. She finally just tells him. He remains quiet and not particularly interested. She wonders why he's not lambasting her or telling her it's the biggest mistake of her life. Tad says if THAT's the biggest mistake of her life, she's lucky. She stares at him.

Hayley charges in and practically knocks over a greeter who is just asking for it, since he's standing about 2" from the entrance to forcibly greet anyone who happens to poke their nose in the door. Apparently she was going to meet with Mr. Green (Axel?), but he has sent his regrets (must have a hot square-dance date). Hayley sits at the bar and stares at an idle glass of wine. Mateo walks in and says he was worried about her. He keeps eyeing the glass of wine and sees HER eyeing it. He says he knows he's not with The Program and can't be her sponsor, but can he help? Is she okay? She says no, she's NOT.

Hayley can't take her eyes off the wineglass as she says she knows she didn't kill her mother, but the thing that's got her so rattled and upset is that she WANTED to kill her and TRIED to. Mateo says anyone WOULD feel that way at that moment -- the point is that she DIDN'T do it. She asks if he understands why she NEEDS to find her mother and see her. He says he wants her to find the peace that she needs to stay sober [because no one likes a sloppy drunk]. They leave to talk to Adam [now THERE'S a peaceful interlude to look forward to].

Liza tells Tad that he almost NEVER makes a decision he regrets [does she even know to whom she is speaking?] What did he do? He says he didn't do anything -- Dixie's in the hospital and it's a rough time, that's all. Liza points out that Dixie is going to be all right, so what's the problem [I'm still wondering why Tad left Dixie to meet Liza at BJs] He grouses that David is her doctor again. She asks if something happened on the yacht between Dixie and David. He says no. Liza: "Well, then, you seriously have to let this go. I mean, she's admitted she made a mistake, that she was wrong. It was a little tiny mistake. Can't you let it go?" Tad: "No."

Liza tells him to stop being a Neanderthal about one little kiss -- for God's sake he CHEATED on Dixie with HER! Tad appears to be biting his tongue as she points out that Dixie STILL came back to him. Tad says it was with the express understanding that history would not repeat itself. Tad stares off into space as Liza continues to rant about it being a stupid little kiss. Noticing his look, she asks if it IS Dixie and David that they are talking about. He gives her a guilty sidelong look and she self-righteously demands to know what he did.

Tad folds his napkin and tries not to burp as he denies doing anything. Liza reminds him of whom he is talking to. He KNOWS she'll find out what it was, so why doesn't he just TELL her [what a nag! Why are they friends again?] He gets up to leave, saying he has to go visit Dixie and they rush out, leaving the food completely untouched [which makes me wonder why he looked like he had to burp]. [FACJ BJS ON] Hey! We serve substantial portions at BJs, and no one walks away unsatisified (unless you're an alcoholic who can't stop drooling over our fine wines)! Get back here and finish your meal -- you can at least START it! There are starving children in Africa, you know!" [FAC BJS OFF] Astonishingly, they do NOT run into Leslie on their way out!

CHANDLER LIVING ROOM

Adam fumes as he watches TV: 300 news channels and NO NEWS! [welcome to OUR world] Marian says what he's REALLY thinking, i.e., what, no reports of washed up bodies on the beach? She says they have a problem -- she can't lie to her husband! He tells her she has no choice. They point out to each other that they will BOTH go to prison if word of this gets out. Adam says that, even worse, Hayley would spend the rest of her life knowing that she murdered her OWN MOTHER! [I don't know about Hayley, but I know WE wouldn't be able to stand it] Marian says that, since he told Hayley that Arlene was still alive, she'll be spending the rest of her life trying to find her. Adam says that if he hadn't thrown Arlene overboard, Hayley would be in PRISON right now [putting too fine a point on it, she would be in JAIL right now -- prison comes later :-)] Marian vehemently suggest that this whole thing is going to blow up in their faces. Adam looks at her as if he has no idea what she's talking about.

Marian tells Adam how she used to forge her mother's signature to get out of things -- she was good at it then, and she'll be good at it now. Except her mother didn't dot her i's with little smiley faces. Marian determinedly says she's going to make this work, though, for their daughters.

The doorbell rings and Adam yells a warning to Marian about Hayley's car being in the drive. Marian is now off-camera. Hayley and Mateo walk in. Hayley says she had to use her key because no one was answering the door [the door to the mansion of a multi-billionaire is LOCKED? Who would've thunk it?] Hayley hems and haws a little as she asks him to help her find her mom. She says she feels that her sobriety is at stake and if she doesn't make it her highest priority, the rest of her life will just fall to pieces. He happily says he thinks he CAN help her - - something just arrived. He leaves the room to fetch it.

Adam returns to the room bearing a special delivery letter from Arlene to Hayley. Adam: "She was in Amsterdam when she mailed that. God knows where she is now." [Wow, that Arlene sure is a strong swimmer! My guess is that she has a wicked breaststroke and dogpaddle] Hayley sniffles pitifully as she reads it out loud: "Hayley, I am so ashamed of myself. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive and forget. But I know that may be too much to ask. I did such unforgivable things, especially on the yacht the other night. Well, I don't blame you for going for my throat. I deserved it. So don't beat yourself up. I think it's better if you forget about me. Don't try to find me. Be happy. If I can get help someday, I'll try to reach you again. I love you, baby. Mama." Adam asks if she can do what Arlene asked. Hayley's mouth is a thin line as her face quivers -- she looks like a starving orphan in an early silent movie. [Mateo misunderstands and throws some pennies at her]

Hayley notes that Arlene doesn't want to be found. She leaves to put some cold water on her face. Mateo thinks it's amazing timing that the letter appears right when Hayley rushes over to ask Adam to help find Arlene, even though Mateo knows that Adam does NOT want her to find Arlene. Kind of lets Adam off the hook, doesn't it? Adam feigns innocence of being on any kind of hook with his daughter. Mateo notes there is no postmark or return address. Adam and I both point out that it was in a package. He reiterates that he told Arlene at the boathouse how devastated Hayley was over the whole thing. Even Arlene was affected, and she wrote this let-- Mateo says Arlene didn't write a thing -- ADAM wrote it.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Erica paces and shrills to Jack that she has no idea where Bianca is. She's not answering her cell phone. Jack elicits more info, i.e., the kiddies were going to go to New York with Leo as a chaperone, but someone at the high school (Shannon) told her that Bianca went to NY *ALONE*! [I'm distracted by the fact that Erica's chest appears to be caving in -- if her breastbones stick out anymore than they do, I'm concerned a couple of people might grab each arm and make a wish] She wails that Laura LIED to her about everything and Leo is with that dreadful Greenlee Smythe and, and!!! Jackson tells her to relax, Bianca can take care of herself. Erica: "Oh, don't think that she doesn't BELIEVE that!" She starts to cry as Jack says: "Isn't that a GOOD thing?" Erica: "Not if she's RUN AWAY!

Jackson asks why Erica would think that and she fills him in on Sarah's call the night before and how she had ripped Sara a new one for stealing Bianca's boyfriend. Jackson asks if Bianca knows about it and, if so, how did she take it? Erica that she told Bianca because she didn't want her to worry about that girl bothering her anymore. She says that Bianca would LIKE to think that Sarah is her FRIEND, but Erica KNOWS better. He wonders if Bianca called Sarah back, but Erica says she didn't take her number. He fiddles with the CallerID device, pointing out that the number would be there. Erica looks horrified at the thought. He checks for the last calls, thinking they can get Sarah's phone number and call her to see if she's heard from Bianca, but there's nothing stored. Did Erica erase it? No. Leo wouldn't have because he has his own cell phone [who pays for THAT?] and Coral doesn't know how to erase ANYTHING :-) Why would Bianca erase the number, though?

Jackson says he thinks that Bianca had a strong reaction to the way Erica handled the call from Sarah. Erica: "What's THAT supposed to mean?" He says that he thinks she got the number from CallerID and then erased it and arranged to meet her friend. Erica rushes up the stairs to retrieve Bianca's address book as Jack yells at her about invading Bianca's privacy. She pays no attention to him whatsoever and he throws his hands up in futility, asking why he even TRIES. Erica whizzes back into the room, swaying her daughter is 16 and missing -- there's no such thing as privacy anymore -- she's out there and Erica has to FIND HER!! Jack says he doesn't think Bianca is out there alone.

Erica ignores Jack and dials the phone. It is answered by a woman who identifies herself as Jennifer Livingston after Erica identifies her own self. Mrs. Livingston looks a little like Stockard Channing. Erica says Bianca used to be friends with Sarah and Mrs. L snaps out: "I know." Erica: "I'm looking for my daughter, and I would like to speak with Sarah to see if --" Mrs. L: "Bianca and Sarah are no longer in contact with one another." Erica: "Yes, I'm well aware of that, Mrs. L, but your daughter Sarah called here last night." Mrs. L: "What?" Erica: "Yes. I spoke with her." Mrs. L: "Did Bianca speak with her?" Erica: "No, no --" Mrs. L: "Because I've forbidden that!" Erica: "Excuse me?" Mrs. L: "Sarah is to have nothing to do with your daughter again." Erica: "I beg your pardon?" Mrs. L: "My daughter was vulnerable and impressionable, and your daughter took advantage of that, so the friendship ended." Erica: "What on earth are you saying?" Mrs. L: "Nothing. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing left to say." Erica: "Look, I don't know what this is all about, but I need to speak with Sarah to find out if she knows where Bianca might have gone in New York." Mrs. L: "Your daughter's in New York City?" Erica: "I think so, yes. So could you please put Sarah on?" Mrs. L: "Sarah is in New York, at the Winslow. Now, if your daughter is with Sarah, I would appreciate it if you would go get her and keep her away for good this time!" [I notice that Mrs. L has the same sheer, light coral curtains that are in Sarah's hotel room in New York. Sarah's sweater, BTW, is a deep coral color. Hmmm, someone's been taking a little more than just the towels. Mrs. L slams down the phone. Erica has a fit about Mrs. L's rudeness. As she rants about how Mrs. L had the audacity to speak to her like that and about her darling BIANCA being the BAD INFLUENCE, of all things, she gathers up her stuff and demands to know if Jack is coming with her to New York. He quickly follows her out the door.

WINSLOW HOTEL

Bianca gets off the elevator and knocks on the closest hotel room door (#320) [man, Sarah won't be able to get ANY sleep next to the elevator!] The door is opened by a pretty, wholesome-looking blonde. Bianca breathes out a joyous: "Sarah!" Sarah is surprised and asks what she's doing there (she really wants to know). Bianca says her mother told her that Sarah had called. Sara is again surprised -- she had tried to leave a message, but ... Bianca apologizes for Erica being so weird on the phone. Sarah ruefully points out that Erica thinks she stole Bianca's boyfriend. Bianca says that, regardless of what her mother thinks, SHE was really happy to hear from her. Gulping and squinching up her eyebrows, Bianca says it's good to see her and that she's missed her. Sarah invites her in, looking down in trepidation. Bianca enters and Sarah closes the door.

Bianca asks why Sarah called. Apparently both Bianca and Sarah keep in touch with someone named Trudy at the clinic -- Trudy told Sarah about Bianca's father dying. Bianca quavers that it was REALLY hard. Sarah offers heartfelt condolences and talks about what a great person Travis was -- not like HER parents. She knows how hard it must be on Bianca. Bianca tries not to cry as she says a part of YOU dies, too. Sarah gives a slight, sympathetic smile, looks down and puts a finger to her mouth as she gets uncomfortable and walks away. Bianca turns, wiping a tear and bursts out that she had called Sarah when she was there in Seattle for the funeral. Sarah, warily (through a mirror): "Yeah? You left a message?" Bianca says no and now it's Sarah's turn to gulp as she says: "Why?" Bianca whispers that Sarah had made it pretty clear ... Bianca sniffles and wipes some snot away as she gets more assertive, reminding Sarah that she told Bianca in a LETTER that she didn't want to talk to her anymore! Sarah agrees that it was a pretty rotten thing to-- Bianca: "Break up with someone you love? You know, I kept telling myself that you didn't mean it, that there had to be some reason. I made up a thousand excuses in my head -- that someone made you, that -- that you had some reason and you were going to tell me someday when we together --" Sarah says Bianca has NO IDEA how it was for her when she came home to Boston. Her mother laid into her right away, asking a thousand questions about why Bianca was writing to her ALL THE TIME! Bianca: "And you told her?" Sarah shakes her head as she says: "I didn't have to. She found one of your letters, Bianca. She knows all about us." [What kind of stuff was Bianca putting in that letter? Bianca's letter: My dearest Sarah, I love you so, I can't live without you. I remember how your silken hair felt against my hot, naked skin and how you throbbed when I put my [insert Sarah's mother screaming here] And then ... and then ...] Bianca is speechless [but her mouth is closed]

Sarah tells Bianca that her mother called her (Bianca) all sorts of names and says she must have brainwashed Sarah. Bianca sputters in consternation and asks if Sarah told her mother that it wasn't like that. Sarah: "Bianca, how could I? I told you what she was like. Nothing would have ever been the same if I'd told her the truth. She probably would have had me committed." Sarah, who is sitting on the bed, looks down unhappily. Bianca sighs and plops herself down next to her, saying she wished Sarah had told her. Sarah's voice breaks as she says she couldn't take that chance. Bianca: "What chance?" Sarah: "Don't do this, Bianca, ok? It's better this way." Bianca: "Better than what we planned? Sarah, we were going to be together --" Sarah: "Bianca --" Bianca: "Forever. You said it to me, too!" Sarah: "I didn't know, ok?" Bianca: "You didn't know what?" Sarah: "That it would be -- that it would be this impossible! We were both scared and alone, away from our families." Bianca: "We weren't scared and alone when we were together. That's when all the scary stuff would stop, Sarah. I never thought I could feel so much. I was always on the outside of everything looking in. And then -- and then we got together and I stopped feeling that way for the first time in my whole life! Sarah, I could NEVER have gotten through rehab without you!" Sarah: "You don't get it!" Bianca: "No, I mean it, Sarah." Sarah: "You don't get it. You got me through the program. It wasn't the other way around. I thought I was nothing. I was sure that if people saw me, that if they just looked inside of me, that they would go away. You looked and you stayed. You made me feel beautiful and special, and I'll never forget that." Bianca: "You are beautiful and you -- you are more special than anybody in the world to me, Sarah. I LOVE you! And I -- I know you're scared. God, so am I!" Sarah: "You don't understand!" Bianca: "I totally understand! I totally understand, Sarah, it's ok!" Bianca wheedles: "Nobody has to know! It can be just the two of us, the way it was when it was just you and me!" Sarah: "No, it's too late!" Bianca: "WHY? Why is it too late?" A hunky guy named Ian walks in. He's surprised, but pleased, that Sarah's friend is visiting. Is Bianca going to be in the wedding? Bianca is stupified and tries to absorb this new information as Sarah nails the point home: Ian is her fiance.

Bianca stumbles over her words as she stands and finally gets out that she's not going to be in the wedding. Sarah asks Ian to go to the printer's to pick up the invitations. He asks if everything is okay and she reassures him that they just get a little emotional when they talk about their time at Fairview. Bianca sits on the bed again. He leaves and Sarah profusely apologizes for Bianca finding out this way -- that's way she tried to call her last night. They will be married on Valentines Day. Bianca asks if Sarah loves him. Sarah falls to her knees and tells her that her MOTHER loves Ian and her father does too. Bianca whispers: "Do you tell him that you love him ... they way you used to tell me?" Sarah shakes her head as Bianca, in deep pain, watches her.

Sarah gets back on her feet and whines to Bianca, asking her why she is making it so hard! Does she think it's easy for HER? They are both crying now. Bianca tells her that she can't marry someone just to prove a point to her parents! Sarah mouths some platitudes that are clearly coming from her mother, saying they weren't in the real world at the clinic, they didn't know what they were getting themselves into! Bianca: "Oh, is that -- is that why you were looking at catalogues for schools in the Pacific Northwest so that you could be near me while I still finished high school?" Sarah: "I wasn't thinking straight!" [snicker] Kicking her whine-mode into high gear, Bianca asks what Sarah's mother DID to her when she read Bianca's letter? Sarah says her mother did nothing, NOTHING! Bianca: "Did she tell you to get married?" Sarah says that it's easier. Bianca doesn't know -- she's NOT Sarah! Bianca: "No. But I know you better than he does, don't I? Sarah -- what are you going to do when it's just you and your husband and you don't feel anything? Look, I know what it's like when you have a mom who talks about boys and dating and plans your wedding -- my mom had my wedding planned since before I was born!" Sarah: "And you still haven't told her you're gay, have you? What are you waiting for, Bianca? The right time? There ISN'T a right time. Trust me." Bianca whispers: "Do you want me to tell her? I will." Sarah asks what that would prove. Bianca says she doesn't know -- that she CARES about her -- more than she can say! Sarah: "This isn't about you. It's not about you. It's what I need to do to live the kind of life that I want to live for myself!" Bianca: "You want to live a lie?" Sarah: "I want not to FIGHT!" Bianca: "So your mother gets to be happy and your father gets to be happy. When do YOU get to be happy, Sarah?" Sarah cries: "I don't."

Bianca continues to mostly whispers. She can't stand the thought of Sarah not being happy for the rest of her life. Her father left her a LOT of money -- they could live on it for a LONG time. It's not impossible -- she can MAKE this happen! Sarah says she'll have everything she wants in life and more, without any worries -- with Ian. Bianca: "Oh, Sarah, come ON! Don't be afraid because it's different. We're different. We're once in a LIFETIME. Look, just don't do this! Don't -- don't get married! It's not going to make you somebody else! I love you, Sarah -- you KNOW that! I can make this happen for us. Sarah, you don't have to do anything. All you have to do is come with ME!" Sarah looks undecided. Bianca looks miserable. There's a sharp knock at the door. [Who could THAT be?] Sarah says it's Ian -- PLEASE just don't say anything! Bianca cries and puts her face in her hands, looking downright suicidal. Sarah opens the door. Why it's Erica and Jackson! Erica looks briefly at Sarah, then ignores her and rushes into the room, calling Bianca's name when she sees her crying. Erica (NOT hysterically): "Bianca, what happened? What did this horrible girl do to you?" Bianca looks up at her as if she's drowning but isn't sure if she should sink or swim.

PV HOSPITAL

Tad comes into Dixie's (empty) room with flowers. He turns at the sound of the door opening. Leslie pops in, quickly closes the door and leans seductively against it. He asks what she's doing there and she boldly says she was waiting for him.

CHANDLER LIVING ROOM

Adam can't believe Mateo thinks he wrote the letter. Mateo corrects him, saying he thinks Adam MADE someone forge the letter -- someone who obviously doesn't know Arlene. Adam: "That's rubbish!" Mateo cuts through the crap and says he KNOWS Adam did it -- just tell him what the hell he is up to! The doorbell sounds and Adam gets up to answer it, asking Mateo not to say anything to Hayley if she comes back into the room. Don't take this away from her! Not if he loves her as much as he says he does. Mateo rubs his eyes and nose. Adam answers the door. It's a stranger who says he was on the yacht the other night. He ran the launch taking people to and from the dock. He found this purse floating in the water. It says it belongs to Mrs. Adam Chandler. [she had a PURSE with her when Adam picked her up and threw her overboard -- where did she stash it? Uh ... never mind. Do you think they'll find the Bentley?] Has she been looking for this. Adam flashes back to picking up the purse and tossing it in after Arlene. Back in the present, he says yes, takes it and pays the man a substantial amount of cash, hesitating, then adding even more asking the man to never mention it again since his wife was a little drunk at the time. Adam smiles like he's hosting an AmWay presentation. Mateo walks into the foyer and asks where Arlene is and what happened to her on that boat. He seems much more interested in goading Adam than in eliciting any actual information.

ON THE NEXT AMC

Leslie to Tad (in Dixie's hospital room): "I have a surprise for you. Do you want to see it?" Dixie opens the door and innocently says: "I would." Tad's eyes widen as he looks back and forth between them.

Mateo to Adam: "What don't you want the police to find out about your wife?" Adam looks stoic.

Erica sternly says to Bianca: "I want an explanation, and I want it NOW." Sarah jumps in: "FINE!! I'll tell you EVERYTHING!"

Irreverently submitted,

[NOTE: My Boogie Chillens were sporadic (and possibly not even posted) during the first part of November 2000).  I found this in my archives, but I don't think I posted it -- it didn't even have a sig on it.  I've since deduced that there were probably a lot of pre-emptions due to the 2000 Presidential election fiasco where the Florida votes had to be recounted by hand due to "hanging chads", and ... well, YOU know what happened after THAT.]

Leo to Bianca:  "If you were 18, I'd make love to you in a Pine Valley second!" LOL!

LOD:
Leo to Greenlee:  "I didn't realize that cheerleaders were pack animals -- do they ever go anywhere alone?"  ROTFL!

2000: BC - Detailed Friday Update, 10/27/00

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC

Tina bursts into the doctors' lounge and tells Jake that something terrible has happened and he has to go with her. Gillian grabs his medical bag and they run out.

At the Pine Valley Inn bar and grill, Bianca tells Erica: "Like Leo wants to babysit ME at a high school party!" Leo: "Come on, Bianca, it would be a kick!"

As Greenlee looks jealously at Leo with Bianca, Woody tells her not to do anything rash. Greenlee says she's going back to high school.

Brooke is shocked when her daughter, Laura.2, appears at the shelter to surprise her.

PINE VALLEY HIGH

A Halloween dance is in full swing, with teenagers wearing mostly unlikely costumes (way uncool) constantly rushing by in front of the camera [making me dizzy when I try to track them with my eyes]. Bianca and Leo are wearing alien costumes consisting of 50s style gloves, sparkley capes, ray-guns and leggings and 90s style alien masks. Leo says he can't breathe in the mask and it's no wonder those creatures have gills! The cheerleaders from hell saunter up, all dressed in a token, half-assed feline motif. Heather introduces herself, Shannon and Mindy to Leo. Shannon asks about them being the new Enchantment couple -- it seems Oscar, the photographer, loves to gossip and spilled to her when her parents shelled out big bucks for him to do Shannon's portrait. Heather purrs that Oscar said that the camera LOVES Leo and he'd better get ready for a fan club! Marcus [is that the same guy that wanted to take Bianca to the dance?] snarls that he wants to dance with his date, Shannon, and yanks her onto the dancefloor. Heather and Mindy make fun of a geek and his date, then skip off to torture some other hapless teens. Greenlee appears in the doorway in an extremely skimpy sparkling-red "I Dream of Jeanie" outfit [where did she get THAT on such short notice?], but Leo and Bianca don't see her right away. She pulls a red veil across her face. Shannon and Heather simper, dip and wave like 10-yr-olds in Leo's direction. Bianca tells him to get used ot it. Leo smiles and waves, then turns and makes a face. Greenlee struts over to him, holding the veil in place.

Greenlee pretends to be dancing and bumps hard into Leo, who spills his drink. Greenlee: "A thousand pardons, oh Master." He looks at her and tells "Jeanie" not to let it happen again. She keeps saying Jeanie-like things and he answers in kind. He pretends not to recognize her. She wants to dance with him, but he says he already has a date and she'll have to rock someone else's Casbah. He rushes to Bianca's side. Marcus the Cowboy walks up for punch. Greenlee says she's thirsty and he pours some punch into a sno-cone cup for her. Bianca looks over and says that Jeanie looks familiar. Leo informs her that it's Greenlee. She expresses disbelief, but he says he'd know that belly-button anywhere ;-) He says she's trying to make him jealous -- it's her way of saying she's sorry. Most people send cards or flowers -- Greenlee stalks them into forgiveness. Bianca comments that it's a good thing Marcus' date went to the ladies room. Leo agrees but watches Greenlee with a slightly jealous eye as he bats a hanging cartoon ghost out of the way.

Marcus, who is wearing what appears to be a wedding ring on his middle finger, asks if Greenlee will do whatever he commands. She nods demurely. He bends and whispers a command into her ear and she shoves him away, saying "In your DREAMS, Cowboy!" She stalks away and Leo walks up to Marcus asking who his hot friend is. Marcus says he has no idea, but she was definitely NOT interested in getting closer. Greenlee is now talking to some other guy in the background. Leo feigns surprise and urges Marcus to go after her. Marcus is unsure of himself and asks if Leo thought she was really coming on to him. Leo assures him that she really WAS and that she could probably teach him a few moves, if he gets his drift. Leo pep- talks him some more, ending with "You're a soccer player -- you know how to score!" Marcus walks up behind Grenlee, grabs her and starts to dance closely with her. She laughs in surprised delight and looks to see if Leo is watching. She keeps smiling until her reaches down and grabs her ass, giving it a hearty squeeze. She yelps and jumps back while Leo busts a gut laughing at her plight.

COMMUNITY CENTER/SHELTER

Laura wanders around looking at things. Brooke walks in bearing soda and Laura tells her that the place looks great -- has Brooke made some changes? [Yeah, it's an entirely different building, for one thing] Brooke cryptically tells her about a car crashing into it earlier in the year, then tells Laura that she's so surprised she's there -- she thought she was going to visit more places in China. Laura says that was the plan, but Ling got another job in China and couldn't get the time off. Brooke makes a comment about it being a shame since Laura wanted to finish photographing that site [I thought she was doing missionary work]. They hug in happiness that Laura is home, though. Laura says she thought she'd come back and finish up her high school credits and get her diploma [I'm also getting a vibe that she and Ling were involved and she may now get involved with Bianca (which has been speculated by others)] Brooke unenthusiastically says that's great. Laura suddenly gushes about being a photographer and Brooke offers the services of the Tempo photography dept. Laura inquires about Jamie (aka, the Little Squirt). Brooke says she's so happy she doesn't even care about the REAL reason Laura is there. Laura admits she got homesick [it's been at least a couple of years -- I guess homesickness took a little time to develop].

Brooke tries to spoil Laura's homecoming by telling her she didn't have to come running just because Brooke was having a bad time. ["Well, Mom, I had to come home and hide the REST of the guns from you -- that's what daughters are for!"] Brooke says she's still spunky as ever. [I note the use of "little squirt" and "spunky" in the same conversation.] Laura queries her about Eliot and says he gives her the creeps for trying to be Brooke's friend and then actually STAYING! Brooke doesn't want help and admits it's because she's ashamed. She trusted the wrong man and brought him into her life and it's affected her family [no it hasn't, it's only affected YOU]. And now he's staying because she told him he was a coward to leave, so that's her own fault, too. Jamie and Junior run in and he and Laura hug. Jamie is dressed as Frankenstein -- his giant plastic neck bolts keep sliding around.

Junior is dressed as a mummy and there's fake blood coming out of his mouth [I thought part of the definition of a mummy is that all the blood has been sucked out -- minor nitpick :-)]. As Laura asks him if he's in high school now, he awkwardly walks around to Brooke's side. He's suddenly very shy as she says she'll see him there. Jamie brags about Junior's soccer prowess and J.V. teamworthiness. Brooke introduces Laura to Ricky, who is suddenly looking older, although it's the same actor. Brooke suddenly remembers that Jamie is supposed to be at his dad's Halloween party, but she has to stay and close up since Tina never came back. Ricky volunteers to take him there [isn't he only 14?] Laura asks Junior if he's coming [no, but he's breathing hard ;-)] and he says he's going to the high school dance. She asks if he's nervous and he nervously says no, why should he be? Brooke suggests that Laura go with them [at least SHE'S old enough to drive, although I doubt she has a valid license] and reconnect with some old friends. Laura reminds her that everyone she knew has graduated. Brooke suggests making new friends. Laura agrees to go, saying her pukey pea-green jacket will be her costume -- she'll be Chairman Mao. Junior hands to keys to Ricky, who will be driving. Laura and Brooke hug some more and the kids all leave. Brooke turns out the lights and broods a little. Eliot walks in, bathed in light from the hallway. Brooke glares at him.

Eliot looks surprised and apologizes, saying he was just closing up and thought Tina would be there. Brooke says Tina's not there. He starts to leave and she calls out that he just missed her daughter, Laura. He's surprised that Laura is in town and says he's sorry that he missed a chance to meet her. Brooke: "Well, I don't think she'd want to meet YOU." She goes on to say she MIGHT -- Aunt Phoebe told her all about him and that's why she came home -- to look after Brooke. He apologizes again for causing her and her family so much trouble. Brooke is nasty in an understated way as she says: "Maybe you just didn't care. You know, maybe you just wanted to drop your load of guilt and lay your burden down." He quietly apologizes again. She knows she basically challenged him to stay, but what the hell is he trying to prove by being there?

Eliot: "You once told me that you lived with the guilt of taking someone's life, that even though a jury found you innocent and even though you believed in a forgiving God, you felt different inside." Brooke folds her arms and archly says: "How noble of you to hide behind my own words." Eliot, still selfishly throwing himself on the spikes, says he's not noble and he's not hiding -- if she feels hatred for him, then good -- bring it on if it will help her heal. She gets REALLY pissed off now [and I don't blame her]: "Why, you ARROGANT HYPOCRITE! You think you're going to get a chance to HEAL me? You almost destroyed my life TWICE! So you are not going to get a chance to put the pieces back together again!", He says he's not trying to do that -- only she can do that. Brooke: "What do you want from me? What do you want? You think because I'm going to see what a wonderful person you've become, I'm going to forgive and forget, or by seeing you every day that the hatred is going to heal me, it's going to be a catharsis for me? Well, I can tell you one thing -- that is never going to happen!" He says he's only there because she called him a coward. She tells him to live his life and let her live hers. She can avoid him -- she can go to another church, she can call before she goes to the shelter. He tells her she shouldn't have to keep looking over her shoulder [then SHUT UP and LEAVE!]. He apologizes for his constant apologizing and apologizes some more, followed up by saying he wants to help her. She glares at him and he stops himself and apologizes some more. He starts to leave, but Brooke stops him. She wants to know if Laura died instantly like they told her, or if she was alive for a while and was she afraid? [Well, technically, she WAS alive, but was brain-dead -- they donated her organs]

Eliot balks, wondering what good it would POSSIBLY do her to tell her this information. She already knows what happened. She snaps that it WOULD do her some good not to have to walk around for the rest of her life not knowing what her daughters last moments were like and imagining the unimaginable. So he tells her. Eliot: "All I saw was a flash of blue in the headlights. You know that expression, something came out of the blue? Well, I -- I get chills every time I hear that now. I turned the corner -- and I didn't think that I was speeding, but by the skid marks, the cops estimated that I was going 50 in a 30-mile-an-hour zone. My reflexes weren't what they should have been because of the booze, and I didn't see the streak of blue until it was too late. I hit the brake, but not in time." Brooke looks stricken: "Her blue wool coat. She didn't like it very much, but it was warm. I told her she had to wear it." Eliot: "I didn't even know that it was a child at first. I told myself that it was a bag that blew out in front of my car. And then I got out, and I saw her. It was like she was sleeping. Lying there on her side, so peaceful." Brooke, crying now, raises her eyebrows a little and whispers: "Peaceful? Was she still alive?" Eliot: "I prayed that she was." Brooke whimpers: "Oh, my god, Eliot, was she?" Eliot, whispering: "Yes. Yes, she was. I reached down to feel her pulse, and when I touched her, her eyes opened. She looked right at me." Brooke can barely get the words out now: "Did she say anything?" Brooke: What? Eliot: She said, "Mommy." He also starts to cry.

A "HAUNTED" HOUSE/CABIN

Leila's baby is coming (hence the screaming from the haunted house) and it really hurts! After she grouses about that mean doctor at PVH, Gillian reassures her that her father-in-law is Chief of Staff and they WILL take her, even if she doesn't have an insurance. Dr. Martin is a GOOD man. They realize there is no time to get her to the hospital, though. Jake: "Gee-yan, can you grab a couple of those pillows?" Gillian: "Who?" Jake tells her she's going to feel his hands and puts his ungloved mitts under the blanket they've conveniently tossed over her. He keeps blandly telling Leila not to push as if he's telling her not to pick at a scab or something. She can't wait. He remarks that the baby's head is crowning and she panics until he tells her that's a GOOD thing. He tells Tina to call 911 to send an ambulance for a post-delivery trip to the hospital, but they appear to be out of range. Jake goes to scrub [where, the outhouse?].

Jake is back with his hands under the blanket again, now urging Leila to push. Gillian is rushing around lighting candles, despite the fact that there are several lamps burning. Leila doesn't want to push anymore. Gillian takes her hand and frantically tells her to look at the candle, concentrate on it, and breathe. [Leila: "How the hell do you think I got this way to begin with? Blow the damn things out!"] Gillian tells her to see how the flame is flickering, strong and beautiful, just like her [Leila: "Yeah, that's what HE said!"] Leila groans loudly as Jake asks Gillian where she learned that. She says she learned it at the hospital -- they tell you everything. Leila: "Not EVERYTHING!!!!" She grunts and groans some more. The time has come and Jake asks for one more push. Gillian shrieks at her to keep pushing. More grunts and groans ensue. The head has come out and Jake tells her not to push while he rotates the shoulders. [I wonder if any poop came out with that last push] Lullaby music plays as Leila grunts and groans and pushes and Gillian looks scared to death -- the music did NOT go with that scene at all [AFTER the baby is born, maybe, but not DURING the birth] Hands are held and Jake looks strangely at Gillian, making me think momentarily that there is a problem, but it's a look of wonderment at the wet, hefty month-old baby, who has the hiccups. He hands the baby to Leila, hops up and hugs and caresses Gillian, contaminating his hands and making no effort whatsoever to attend to the baby or Leila's nether regions. Tina must be out chasing ambulances, because she's nowhere in sight during this entire scene.

Jake and Gillian are smiling as he hands Leila a freshly cleaned up baby. Emergency lights are flashing and people are rushing around (Tina is back). The baby is very loosely wrapped, his little arms waving around, despite the doors being open during what is probably a very chilly night. Gillian looks like she's trying hard not to smell something unpleasant. Jake tells the EMTs to take them to PVH and check them in as HIS patients -- he'll follow after he cleans up a little. Tina offers to go with Leila and she gratefully accepts as the baby continues to grunt lustily. Leila laments that she doesn't know what to do -- she has nothing for him, not even a blanket! Jake tells her not to worry -- he'll fix her up with a social worker and they'll find a place for her to stay. A grateful Leila asks if he would mind if she named her son Jake. He says he would be honored. Leila tells Gillian she was right -- Dr. Martin IS a good man. She and the baby are wheeled out. Gillian, still squinching up her face and tearing up, says: "The best."

Gillian smiles and whirls, marveling over the baby's birth and Leila's ability to create a life. People just take it for granted -- women have babies every day and it's the most courageous, wondrous and bravest things a person can do! Jake agrees and says it's especially so when the baby is created from love, blah, blah, blah. She exclaims that it's no wonder that he fought so hard for Colby -- he was such an amazing father! They both say each other's name and stare meaningfully at each other. They kiss in front of the fire as the audience sighs in frustration, KNOWING in their hearts that Gillian is going to get/be pregnant in a misguided attempt to make Jake feel better.

Gillian eventually breaks suction and suggests they call the hospital and see if Leila has been admitted. Jake, ever the caring and competent Martin doctor, says Tina's taking care of her and she'll be fine. All he wants is Gillian. [Whose house/cabin are they in? It's electrically well-lit, so it can't be completely abandoned. Are they giving any thought whatsoever to the people who might walk in and see things like afterbirth and condoms lying around?] They kiss some more.

PINE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

Laura and the boys enter the dance [who paid their cover charges?]. Laura rushes up to Bianca and hugs her. Bianca greets Junior and asks if he remembers Leo. He looks annoyed as he says yes and they shake hands. Leo asks if he's okay and says he looks a little pale (brrrrump-TING!) Laura is introduced to Leo. Laura says he looks a little old to be in high school and he says he's Bianca's volleyball coach :-) [The kids around them are probably wondering where all the old people (Greenlee,Leo, Laura) came from.] Junior reminds Bianca that she still owes him a dance. Bianca agrees but says she has to hit the bano (bath) first. Junior asks Laura to dance.

Greenlee, meanwhile, is once again snuggled up dancing with Marcus, who has apparently forgotten that he's a cowboy, not a vampire, as he appears to be sucking on her neck. Shannon returns from the bathroom and Bianca and Leo express amused concern for Greenlee as Shannon breaks them up. Shannon: "I don't know where you came from , but he's with ME!" Greenlee: "You can have him! But you might consider roping and branding him. Your boyfriend's a BEAST!" Shannon: "Maybe if you didn't dress like a little slut! Come on, Marcus!" She yanks him off and he gives a sheepish wave goodbye to Greenlee. Mindy and Heather glare at her. She whips around to see Leo and Bianca laughing at her and angrily strides over to them. [her veil is off now] She demands to know if he thinks her being told off by a teeny-bopper is FUNNY! He says it is and and deserves it for crashing a tenny-bopper party. She makes a nasty comment about Bianca being a little old for a babysitter. Leo says that Bianca is a delightful young LADY who acts her age, unlike some others. He politely asks Bianca if she wants something to drink and she very politely says she does. Greenlee glares at him as he goes and asks what's WITH him! Bianca tells her that if she REALLY wants him, why is she playing all these games? He's way too smart for them. Greenlee scoffs at her for daring to give her advice and then walks away.

Bianca turns with her patented lip curl that could mean just about anything, but seems to mean she's feeling insecure. She overhears the cheerleaders talking about "that hussy" and saying she'd better not try that again, even if she IS Bianca's friend -- she seemed to know Leo, too. Mindy says that he wasn't into her at ALL, though. Heather wonders what on earth he sees in Bianca. Mindy: "The same thing everybody else does -- her mother! Case in point -- can you believe that they're going to be the new Enchantment couple? He's going to totally knock her out of the frame!" Shannon: "Meow, Mindy!" Mindy: "I mean, come on! The girl is plain looking!" Heather: "And weird! At least she dressed the part tonight. The girl is downright alien!" Shannon: "Good thing Erica Kane's her mother -- otherwise, she'd be a complete waste of space!" They laugh and laugh and laugh as Bianca stands nearby looking woebegone. They continue to laugh at Bianca as Mindy says "I cannot BELIEVE she thinks we actually LIKE her!"

Bianca wipes away tears as they continue to mock her. She runs through the party and smacks headlong into Rain, who is wearing her usual outfit with the addition of a scarf with skulls on it. When she asks where Bianca is going, Bianca sobs that she thought she could try to fit in, but she guesses there's really no point in trying! Rain: "Congratulations -- I faced that truth about myself YEARS ago. That's why I went out on my own." She wonders why Bianca would WANT to fit into all that, anyway. Why would she want to be like those other girls. She points to various girls, ending with Greenlee. Bianca: "ESPECIALLY **HER**!" Bianca asks why Rain is there and Rains tells her she came to rescue her. She figured this wasn't Bianca's type of place. She knows a place that IS, though -- does Bianca want to go? Bianca says she's there with her friend and points to Leo who is now mutually petting with Greenlee. Rain tells her not to worry about him -- he's already busy with Scheherazade over there :-) [I'm wondering why Greenlee hasn't been thrown out by chaperones yet, considering how much skin she is revealing] Bianca agrees to go and they run out. Leo notices her leaving and runs after her. Greenlee runs after him and stops him, saying she doesn't blame Bianca for leaving. He says he can't just leave her there alone, Erica will KILL him! Greenlee says he can't just leave HER there alone. He tells her if she doesn't want to be there, then don't be there! He rushes after Bianca again. Greenlee looks around and huffs, trailing after him.

THE BLUE ANGEL

Bianca and Rain try to enter a nightspot, but are stopped and carded. Bianca starts to leave, but Rain (who has her hand in the small of Bianca's back) stops her and bluffs: " No, no, no. You gave me yours, remember? It's not in the car" She whips out fake IDs and they are let in. Bianca gushes about Rain having the IDs (Rain says she has about 10 of them) and says that if her Mom ever found out she would be SOOO grounded [she's ALREADY grounded!] Rain doesn't think Erica will ever find out they were there. They wander over to the bar where Rain orders sodas from Carla, whom she seems to know. There are lots of patrons in the bar, all of whom are female. Bianca hasn't noticed this yet. She picks up a box of matches that read "The Blue Angel" and says she doesn't think she's ever heard of it. Rain says it's still underground and Bianca says she thinks she prefers SOS [she's the ONLY one]. Rain tells her to give it a chance and they toast each other: "To new horizons!" A young woman walks up and slowly and sensuously takes the matches, looking penetratingly at Bianca as if she'd like to just eat her up. Bianca is disconcerted and comments that she's just noted that everyone there is a woman. Someone else calls to Rain and before rushing over, Rain tells Bianca: "Hey -- you're pretty sharp. You figure it out. Be right back." Bianca looks EXTREMELY uncomfortable and surreptitiously looks around as other women check her out. The matchbox woman walks over again and asks if she can take the seat next to Bianca. Not knowing how to react, Bianca says yes. Suddenly she seems to feel lighter and more confident. She takes her mask off the top of her head and smoothes her hair, smiling and looking around happily.

Leo and Greenlee walk in and he states the obvious: "This is a bar, Greenlee." Greenlee looks around questioningly. Leo wonders how Bianca got in since she's only 16. Greenlee: "Give me a BREAK! Like you've never used a fake ID?" Leo insists that Bianca's different. Greenlee: "Maybe more than you think. Leo, look around. Friends of Ellen EVERYwhere. You're the only man IN here." Leo is comically stupified as they realize it's a gay bar. Greenlee spies Bianca, who is smiling shyly, but happily, at the woman trying to pick her up. Greenlee: "Well, well, well -- Erica Kane's daughter is GAY!" She looks smugly satisfied at the discovery. Leo continues to gape in shock at Bianca, who is now toasting with the other woman, grinning blissfully and laughing. She coyly puts her hand through her hair and smiles down at her drink with an I'm-finally-where-I-BELONG look.

ON THE NEXT AMC:

At SOS, as Hayley looks on, Ryan introduces himself to a blonde (whose back is to us, but I think it's Arlene): "Ryan Lavery. No strings attached."

Jake to Gillian at the haunted house of birth: "Let me make love to you."

At the boathouse, Bianca says to Leo: "I wish you hadn't followed me tonight, Leo." Leo: "Because you'd still have your secret."

At SOS Greenlee snidely tells Erica: "You don't know the first thing about Bianca, do you?"

Tad (dressed as a vampire) to a drunken David: "Get out of my house!" Dixie (dressed as Morticia or Elvira?): "No, it's all right. Let him stay."

Irreverently submitted,

Robin "okay NOW we're getting somewhere!" Coutellier
