2001: Detailed Friday Update, 2/2/01

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC

A tearful Greenlee to Leo: "Do you really think I needed to know that my parents have been stealing from me? You're an idiot, Leo! You just don't get it!"

Jake to a hospital-gowned Gillian: "The timing doesn't lie. This has to be my child, Gillian."

Leslie to a pensive David: "Get me more of that drug, David, or you will lose EVERYTHING, including the delightful Dixie Martin."

Tad to a silent Dixie: "Did you sleep with him again tonight?"

[First, let me just say that I LOVED Liza turning the tables on the hypocritical, adulterous Dixie]

THE HOLY PATERNAL MARTIN SHRINE

Tad is apparently staying at Joe's house. He answers the door to find Dimitri and Edmund at the door [this HAD to fall on a FRIDAY?] They want to talk to Jake, but Jake isn't home. [The brothers grim look like a couple of bulldogs. I think Dimitri has a chain dangling from his right side, possibly from his choker, which come in hand in the Marick clan] In response to their queries, Tad tells them he and Dixie are having problems. Dimitri says they should be able to work out their problems. Tad says he wouldn't be too sure about that with Hayward slithering around out there. Dimitri, ears ever pricked for info about finding Alex, is startled and wants to know what Hayward has to do with it. Tad says David and his Libidozone are responsible for landing him in his parent's guestroom. He'd give anything to connect David with what happened on Ryan's yacht that night. Edmund tells him that they CAN connect him to the Libidozone. Dimitri kicks in that they have the shipping order from Carlquist Labs in Switzerland, addressed to David Hayward. Tad asks them to help by showing the order to Dixie to make her see who and what David really is.

Tad asks if they aren't going after him. Edmund says that so far they only have the shipping order. Tad wants them to shove it in his face and see what he says. Dimitri tells him that they already did that. David claims he DID receive the drug, but that it was stolen before the party. Tad says he's lying. Edmund says that David swears he was only using it for research, but he stopped the experimentation when Alex objected. Tad says he didn't stop for ANY reason -- he was using that drug for one reason and one reason only -- to get to Dixie. Dimitri agrees and says that Alex got caught in the middle. She must have seen David do something suspicious at the party and he made sure she disappeared. She's been gone for weeks now and they don't have a clue as to where she is. [Weeks? Try MONTHS. Usually they refer to time the other way around.] There's a knock at the door. It's Dixie, who is apologizing for the night before. She sees Edmund and Dimitri and, abashed, greets them. She says she didn't realize he had company and makes a move to leave. Tad stops her and says that the brothers grim have very important info about her friend, Dr. Hayward. She's GOT to believe him -- David is NOT the man she thinks he is.

Dixie closes her eyes briefly and says she didn't come there for his latest theory about David. The brothers grim leave, asking Tad to tell Jake. Dimitri is wearing what he probably thinks is a tactful face, but he looks more like an irritated, toothless clown. Dixie asks what's going on and says it's obvious he's up to something with Edmund and Dimitri. Tad says he's not up to anything -- HAYWARD is the one she's got to WORRY about. Dixie closes her eyes again and exhales in exasperation at his one- track mind, then says that Hayward is NOT the one that's LYING to her. He asks how she knows that. She thinks she KNOWS the "man behind the mask", but she doesn't have a CLUE! He says there are a couple of things she doesn't know about Hayward. [I'm noticing that no one but Dixie seems to be using his first name anymore. Kind of reminds me of the OJ trial] Dixie: "And you just can't WAIT to tell me, can you?" Tad plods on, telling her about the drug shipment from Carlquist Labs. She says David orders stuff from there all the time, so what? He tells her it was for Libidozone, and she actually ponders that a moment before shifting her eyes to come up with an excuse for David. Dixie: "Well, so, ok. Guilt by shipping order." She ridicules him for his flimsy "proof" that David is some sort of out-of-control mad person. Tad: "After what happened on that BOAT? COME ON! Dixie thinks there's some sort of logical explanation (but her eyelids are starting to flutter. Tad says he used it for a little pet project, which is destroying their MARRIAGE. Dixie says she's NOT going to listen to this. Tad: "Why do you defend him? Why do you refuse to see what everyone else knows?" She asks why he's so intent on revenge [maybe because David is so intent on schtupping you?] And to drag Dimitri and Edmund into it? Tad says they weren't dragged into ANYTHING -- they happen to think David has something to do with Alex's disappearance. Dixie thinks that's ludicrous! Tad: "No, it's true. Alex knew that Hayward had the Libidozone. Then all of a sudden, she vanishes? Hello?" Dixie's eyes flutter madly and she shrugs her shoulders at the absurdness of his accusations. She asks if there's more. He says yeah, there is -- there's Leslie. Dixie gets snide: "Yes, there is Leslie." He says he thinks Leslie was David's accomplice. Dixie's eyes don't blink at all as, arms folded, she says: "So between the drug lord and the vixen, you're quite the victim, aren't you?" [I didn't see, but I think her toe was tapping and a rolling pin was nearby] He says that's not what he meant. She points out that Leslie is David's LAWYER, not his partner in CRIME! [I will stifle myself here in deference to our loyal legal fans] She changes tack slightly and says she came to apologize for what happened last night and to see if they could work things through. Tad: "How do you propose we do that when you refuse to see the truth?" Dixie spits out a little huff of frustration and tilts her head at him.

Dixie says she knows the truth. He slept with Leslie and he lied about it. He said he stopped seeing her and he lied about it. He has explanations and accusations and conspiracy theories all over the place. Dixie: "It's -- I'm tired of it, Tad. You blame David for everything that's wrong with US. It's got to stop!" Tad's voice breaks as says he's trying to save their marriage. She says he's NOT, he's just competing with David. He says yes, he is, and he's LOSING because he shows her the side that he wants her to see and it's NOT the truth. Tad: "Whether you want to believe it or not, he's a very dangerous man, and I'm afraid he's going to hurt you." Dixie: "Like you hurt me?" He stares at her for a moment, then gets back on track. Through gritted teeth, Tad says: "He's USING you." Dixie bobbles her head as she earnestly says: "He's a good man! Don't you know how hard it was for him to operate on his mother last night? I mean, that took a lot of personal dedication and -- and courage. Are those the traits of a madman?" Tad stares at her, then calmly says: "All right. I'll shut up about David. But you do ME a favor. Ask him about Libidozone." Dixie: "Why? Why should I?" Tad: "Because if you don't, he's just going to go on manipulating you." [like her asking him is going to stop him!] Dixie: "David will hurt me? David will lie to me? All the things that YOU'RE guilty of, Tad. I just can't listen to it anymore." [she never does] She turns and walks out, slamming the sacred Martin front door. Tad turns glumly away.

DAVID'S OFFICE, WHERE THE ABC.COM PAINT PEELS FROM THE CAUSTICITY

David calls Dixie just to hear her voice. She asks about Vanessa, but he says he's much more concerned about her, considering he Medi-Vac'd her into an ambush last night: "Liza, Palmer, the Martin boys. What was I thinking?" She says she was glad she was there because she got to see all his courage [oh BARF!] -- she got to see him save his mother's life last night. He says he did it for her. She says he did it for a deeper reason -- for himself [not so deep, then]. Leslie chooses that moment to barge into his office, trilling: "Oh, Doctor! You've got to fix my broken heart!" Leslie: "I CAME for my Libidozone!" [I thought it was the other way around]

In their next scene, David is on the phone again, telling someone that the new temp is not working out. He demands that they find a secretary with a BRAIN and slams the phone down. Leslie heaves a sigh and tells him that he promised her a batch of Libidozone and she wants it NOW. He says he was in the OR all night. She doesn't believe him. David: "My mother was SHOT, Leslie, a bullet lodged in the heart!" Leslie leans over and in a ridiculing, yet conspiratorial manner says: "And you didn't finish her off on the table?" He tells her to come back tomorrow. Leslie: "No, we had a DEAL." David: "You mean blackmail?" Leslie: "Whatever." She threatens to tell Dixie EVERYTHING if he doesn't deliver. David: "What makes you think that Dixie's going to believe anything coming from the SLUT who slept with her husband?" Leslie: "Oh, I can be very convincing." David: "Yeah, right! If you need an APHRODISIAC to hold on to Tad, maybe you should give it up." Leslie: "No, he just has Dixie on the brain. The only way that I can remind him that we were made for each other --" David: "Yeah, is to drug him out of his gourd so that he'll relive the sodden sex on that yacht? Ooh, how romantic." She says she is THISCLOSE to getting the man she wants and she will NOT give up! She gets girlish and pouts that he said he would help her. He says he made another batch, gesturing to something on his desk. They both dive for it. David: "But I changed my mind. I'm not giving you Libidozone, Leslie." [Good strategy -- she needs some Thorazine with a Zoloft chaser, STAT!] She thinks she realizes what he REALLY wants, and asks how much money it will cost. He shakes his head. They both still have their hands on the container.

Leslie: "You want me to beg?" David: "Well, that would be nice to see someday at the appropriate time, but not now." He says he's not giving her an illegal drug -- it's unscrupulous. Leslie: What, has your MISTRESS been teaching you SCRUPLES? He waves a vial around and tells her not to make him call Security. Leslie: "Listen, you had no trouble using that drug before. Don't expect me to believe that you're having a crisis of conscience!" David, with all the sincerity of a used car salesman after you've finished telling him about your hemorrhoids, says: "I made a lot of mistakes that I have profoundly regretted." Leslie: "Yes, I'm going to profoundly regret regaling Dixie with all the sordid details of how you orchestrated her seduction." David: "She won't believe you." Leslie taunts him: "You want to take that chance? Think about it, David. Will she still look up at you with those adoring eyes? Will she still beg you to hold her, to make love to her?" She lunges at the vial and spews: "I don't think so!" David grips her hand and makes lots of eye contact when he says: "You DON'T want to cross me, Leslie." She stares at him with a look of grim determination. [Little side story here: Back in the late 70s, I came out of the ladies room at work to find myself face-to-ass with the guy repairing the copier machine. He was wearing those fabulously tight "Angel's Flight" pants and had a FANTASTIC ass! I admired it for a while, smiled to myself and went back to my desk where someone was waiting for me. He looked at me and jumped back a little, feigning fright. "What?" I said, taken aback by the look on his face, "What's wrong?!" He told me that he didn't know, just that I had a look of "grim determination" on my face. ROTFL!!! Ah, memories!]

PINE VALLEY HOSPITAL/CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION DISPENSARY

Myrtle, clearly volunteering based on the overblouse she's wearing that one usually finds in the Montgomery Ward Old Lady Housecoat dept, greets Jake. Her hair is so brilliantly red that sparks are flying off of it. She says he's very bright-eyed for a fellow who was up so late last night. She's heard about Vanessa. She also knows he went to a bar with his father and brother. He wonders if she has a crystal ball, but she says she had a chat with his father. Jake leans over and asks if Joe told her that Gillian is pregnant. Isn't that great? There's going to be another Martin running around by the end of the summer. Myrtle fakes a bright smile and roles her eyes a little, stammering his name as he tells her to be happy for him. [Am I the only one starting to hear the refrain from Al Bundy's favorite TV show, "Psycho Dad!"?] She says she wants him to be happy, but isn't it a bit too soon? [in her head: "Considering Ryan and Gillian screw more times a day than the air-powered lug-nut driver at a 24-hour tire outlet?"] He says he missed so much with Colby [Oh, PULEEZE! You took her for visitation so often that the Pope is investigating!], and this time it's going to be different! He's going to be with this baby from the beginning and it's going to have the best care and most love from day one. He speaks reverently of burping and diapering. She says he was so hurt when he lost Colby and warns him not to put all his hopes on this baby; is he sure it's HIS baby? He's positive -- he FEELS it [Gillian's fetus: "In the womb, no one can hear you scream, but I AM screaming!"] He looks beatific and serene. She reminds him that Gillian and Ryan are together now. He says he and Gillian DID love each other and they created this child. She says that even if that's true, R&G will be married and raise the child together -- RYAN will be the legal father.

After talking to Gillian, Jake turns back to Myrtle and asks what she thinks of naming the child "Ruth" if it's a girl. She tells him Ruth would probably tell him not to rush things. He says he just spoke to Gillian, and she's coming over to talk. Myrtle asks how she's taking it. He says she's in shock, but he thinks she's going to come around. She once again tells him that Gillian is going to marry Ryan -- she's making plans that DON'T INCLUDE HIM! He says that's why he's going to insist on paternity tests. If he IS the father, he's going to insist on shared custody. Myrtle: "Whether she wants to or not?" He walks from behind the nurses desk and motions her over to the waiting benches in the hallway [I don't know why, since there wasn't anyone at the desk but him]. He says he is the father of this child and Gillian is just going to have to accept it. Myrtle: "What if she says no?" Jake: "Well, I don't even want to think about that now, but I do have legal options." Myrtle tells him that when you had the awful battle about Colby, it tore him apart, sent him to Chechnya, and he lost Gillian. She couldn't bear to see him going through that pain again! Jake: "Myrtle, I will do anything for my child." Myrtle: "I know you would. I mean, you chose to lose Colby rather than drag the baby through a horrible, ugly court case. And you can't -- you mustn't do the same thing to this baby." Jake says there there won't be a struggle this time because Gillian and he are going to do what's best and make the right decisions. Jake: "And it's different. This baby's my own FLESH AND BLOOD, and Colby wasn't." Myrtle asks if this about the baby, or if he's hoping to hold on to Gillian. Jake: "I know I've lost Gillian." Myrtle: "Yeah, but here, right there [she taps on his chest] -- do you think maybe if you share the baby you might keep the relationship with Gillian alive?" Jake: "I don't know. I just want her to be happy." Myrtle: "Well, happy about the baby or about you being the father? Jake, darling, don't expect too much!" Jake: "I want to be a part of my child's life." Myrtle: "Yes, but that's for another time. But right now, don't push Gillian, or you're going to drive her away!" She leaves and says the offer of a cup of tea with her is open.

THE GOOD SHIP SCREW-ME

Leo walks into the main cabin and Ryan asks after Vanessa's health and tosses in that he and Gillian are praying for her [somehow, praying is not what comes to mind when these two get on their knees]. Leo says it's touch and go and that he could use another prayer because Adam was acting like a bear grilling Vanessa about Hayley and Leo told him to beat it. Ryan says, in that case, prayers won't help. Leo switches the subject to Stan Berringer, their investment guru, who says they are already seeing returns. Leo reinvested his profits, except for the $1k he used for his date with Laura. Gillian enters wearing an ugly gray skirt and a bulky foreign-flavored top (Russian? Asian?) They hug and she smiles wanly.

Ryan pours Gillian some coffee or tea, commenting that 4 sugars are coming up. Leo gags and Ryan explains that it's a Hungarian thing. Gillian declines the drink. He asks if she's dizzy again and she says she's fine. He picks her up and twirls her around [not like a baton, but that would be kind of cool, wouldn't it?], offering champagne, caviar and anything else she wants. He suggests Valentine's Day for getting married and she points out that she's not divorced yet. He says he knows that, but she WILL be any day and they she'll be ALL his! Smooches. Laura skips in (without knocking). Leo puffs his cheeks like he's holding in a monumental burp and gives her the shush sign, pointing to the lip-locked couple. Not wanting to break the trance of the love-struck couple, she walks up to them and asks if she's interrupting. Ryan says everything is going great and a little love can't hurt. Having successfully pried them apart, she offers to leave. Leo tells her to wait for him -- all this mushy stuff is bad for his stomach. Ryan asks her to stay and go over projections with him since she's going to do their PR photos.

The phone rings and Gillian gets it. It's Jake, who has relapsed and, once again, is incapable of pronouncing the L's in her name. He wants to come and see her right now. She says it's not a good time. He states that she's pregnant with his child. Gillian says ok-ok, but not HERE. He gets sanctiMartinous [kudos to Aisling (I think) for that word!], sputtering indignantly that she hasn't told Ryan yet! She asks where he is. He says she HAS to tell Ryan what's going on, then says she's on her way, hanging up on him. Ryan innocently inquires as to the nature of the call and she says it was the Library -- she had ordered a book and its come in, so she's going to leave to pick it up. She quietly asks him if he knows how much she loves him. Really. Honestly. Truly. For sure. You betcha. Ryan: "I do know -- every single minute of every single day. They smooch some more and Leo points at them, telling Laura: "Hey! You see my working conditions? It's a real strain."

Gillian leaves and Ryan spins to tell Leo and Laura their next big assignment. They are going to hold a contest and participants are going to submit their most romantic dream, just in time for Valentine's Day! Can Laura work with Leo on this? She says she's doing this job as Independent Study and doesn't have classes [how convenient], so she's all his. They decide to go to the Valley Inn for Eggs Benedict to discuss it.

PINE VALLEY BAR AND GRILL

Greenlee hesitantly walks in and says good morning to Woodruff, who is sitting at a table with her father, Roger. She says she didn't know her father was going to be there and Woody says he didn't know until just that morning. Roger asks if she's been keeping out of trouble. She crosses her arms and asks why he's there and he says he's just passing through -- he's sorry he didn't have her number. she looks hurt, then bucks up and says: "Don't bother, ok, you never call." He says a course in anger management might do her some good. She says: "I'm not angry, I just -- never mind. Are you staying overnight? Maybe we could have dinner." Roger: "I'm leaving just as soon as Woody and I finish our business." Greenlee: "Does what I feel even MATTER to you, Daddy?" Roger: "You know, you mustn't take this so personally, dear. It's not healthy." Greenlee: "I just wish I could see more of you. Well, how's Mother? Does she like Spain?" He tells her Mumsy is back in San Diego and he's going to join her in a couple of hours. Woody stands up and awkwardly says he has calls to make and suggests they have breakfast and catch up. Greenlee's eyes are dark and somewhat unreadable, but readable enough that we know she is hurt and intimidated, yet strong and determined. She asks if he's still mad at her. He says the charges were dropped and she hasn't killed anyone, at least not yet, he presumes. She says she meant about what Leo said about her trust fund. Roger pretends he doesn't know what she's talking about and then remembers, telling her not to be ridiculous -- he's forgotten all about that (i.e., he's not mad about something that is so clearly her fault and Leo's fault). Greenlee: "Then why are you punishing me?"

Greenlee: "Daddy, Leo said some horrible things, and when you left you were so angry." Roger: "Oh, that's right! He accused me of plundering your trust account. [he chuckles indulgently] Impudent! But then that sort always is." Greenlee: "What 'sort' is Leo?" Roger: "The Eurotrash pretty boy who never met an heiress he didn't like. I hope you've kept your distance. She says Leo's not like that. She hesitates and looks down, then says that she trusts him. Roger looks incredulous and somewhat insulted: "You can't possibly believe him, that I would stoop so low as to pilfer my own child's trust account?" Greenlee looks at him searchingly, then smiles hopefully as she says: "I know you love me too much to do something like that." He gives a hesitant look of his own.

Leo and Laura walk in. He stops for a moment to take in the sight of Greenlee and her father at a table. L&L are both distracted by Greenlee and her father and Laura asks if she should try somewhere else. Leo says no. It's not Greenlee, it's her DAD -- he can't believe that loser's back in town already. Laura. "Hmmm. SO what's the brainstorm?" Leo orders 2 cappuccinos and 2 Eggs Benedict. [I suddenly have a craving for scrambled eggs, but I'm out of eggs. I have a craving for chocolate, too, which I'm also out of.] He says Laura now has his undivided attention. What should they name the contest? She suggests "The Dream Weaver Contest". Leo [who really needs a haircut right about now] runs with that: "That's not bad. That's not bad. All our dream weavers will submit their most impossibly romantic dreams?" Laura: "And their dreams come true, courtesy of IncredibleDreams.Com." Leo: "Well, within reason, of course. I mean, there's no honeymoons on Mars or fathering Julia Roberts' child or anything like that." She asks if employees can enter and he says no. She says that's too bad and starts to fantasize.

In her fantasy, Laura, wearing a teal, spaghetti-strapped dress, is on the yacht. She smiles as she sees Leo and walks to meet him in front of the large stained-glass mural. He caresses her face, then bends to kiss her. Lights flicker and curtains billow n the breeze. [Actually, it's downright windy -- looks like a Nor'Easter] Sexy music plays as they run on deck. Leo points to something in the distance and whispers something incredibly sexy into her ear. For no apparent reason, they turn to stand among billowing pieces of white canvas. He holds her neck and kisses her again as the wind creates a new part in the back of her head.

Leo calls her name and brings her back to the reality of the bar. She says she was daydreaming. He asks if she minds sharing and she says it was just girlie stuff. She asks if HE has any incredible dreams. Leo: "Yeah, actually, I do. It involves a vat of chocolate and consenting adults." [He and Greenlee may have already made THAT dream come true] They laugh.

Greenlee, hearing them laugh, looks over her shoulder, chagrined. She tells him she's been thinking. Roger, totally serious: "That's always dangerous, dear." Greenlee takes a breath and continues: "Pine valley's such a drag this time of year. You know, the weather's dreary, the yokels are so -- yokel. How about I come to San Diego and visit you and Mommy? Wouldn't that be fun?" Roger: "No, I'm afraid that's not possible." Greenlee: "Why?" Roger: "Your mother's redoing the house." Greenlee: "Again?" Roger: "Feng Shui this time." Greenlee: "Well, I could stay in the guest house. Please, Daddy, let me come home! I swear, I'll stay out of the way!" Roger: "We both know that never happens."

Greenlee viciously snaps her napkin open and slaps it across her lap hard enough to leave welts as she say: "You have no problem with my MONEY. It's just ME you can't stand!" Roger: "Greenlee --" Greenlee lashes out: "You know, I'm your DAUGHTER, not a PIGGY BANK! I'm going to be out of money if Mommy doesn't find a cheaper hobby!" Roger, cooly detached, as always: "Well, I had hoped that we could have a nice --" Greenlee: "You HOPED you could get in and out of town without seeing me!" Roger stands and buttons his jacket, leaving a perfectly tasty meal untouched: "If I hurry, I can catch an earlier flight. Tell Woody I'll call him." Greenlee watches him, hurt. She stares down at her plate and pushes it away, about to cry. Leo excuses himself from Laura and rushes over to Greenlee, who lifts her head up in resignation and asks what he wants. He thanks her for last night and she asks about his mom. Leo: "Thanks to you, I was there when she woke up." Greenlee: "She's going to be all right, then?" Leo: "It takes everything except a silver bullet to get to Vanessa." He asks after HER parental unit. She pastes a brilliant smile on her face and enthusiastically says: "It was a total surprise! He and Mommy miss me so much they want me to come back there for a visit! I'd rather be anywhere than San Diego in February. It's social death, if you know what I mean, but they even redid my room for me. How could I say no?" Her face looks like it's about to crack. Leo: "Liar." Her smile dies and she tells him to leave her alone and stop pretending he gives a damn about her problems. He stares at her thoughtfully.

In the next scene, Leo is back at his table eating eggs and Greenlee is resolutely eating. She stands to leave and Woody comes back asking where her father went. She says he's on a plane to San Diego, the demands an AUDIT of her trust fund -- TODAY! With another look of grim determination [heh, heh], she clomps off, leaving Woody open-mouthed. Laura comments that Leo knows how to make quite an exit. Leo nods and apologizes for being lousy company, and she excuses him, saying he's on the rebound. Leo: "Yeah, I'm a real chick magnet." Laura: "Well, anyone looking to settle down with Mr. Right should keep moving. But good thing I'm just in it for fun." She smiles at him and he sheepishly raises his eyes at her as he sips his cappuccino. [I study her make-up, which very carefully shapes her eyes into a catlike slant. Methinks some feline plastic surgery is in her future, like that really weird rich lady in Manhattan. I can't wait to see what she looks like with whiskers!]

PINE VALLEY HOSPITAL/MARTIN BABY MATERNITY WARD

Gillian shows up and curtly asks what he wants. Jake thanks her for coming and says he just wants to make sure she's ok. She says she's fine. Jake: Are you sure? I mean, because I know that this pregnancy is the last thing that you expected or that you wanted, and you and Ryan have your whole future ahead of you, and --" Gillian drops the curtness and rambles about how unreal it is to be having a baby. He says it IS real and she HAS to tell Ryan. She asks how can she tell Ryan about it when he's so happy? How can she tell him she's carrying JAKE'S child? It will break his heart! [Jake's brain: "Oh boo-hoo!"] He says Ryan loves her and will accept the child, he KNOWS it. Gillian: "Ryan and I are finally free to be together. How can I ask him to accept your child?" Jake: "Well, you just have to think about this baby." Gillian: "Well, all I can think about is Ryan and how unhappy this will make him. If I decide to --" Jake: "GILLIAN, you CANNOT terminate this pregnancy!"

Jake advances on her menacingly enough that she steps back. Jake: "Gillian, TELL me that you're going to have this child!" Gillian: "I haven't thought that far ahead. I still can't believe I'm pregnant! My body feels the SAME. I have NO maternal feelings. Maybe I'll be a terrible mother!" [Jake's brain: "No problemo -- hand the little sprite over to ME! I'll have you declared unfit -- case closed!"] He insists she's a natural, listing motherly things she did with Colby, like dangling necklaces in front of her face. She says it's complicated. He begs her to tell him she's not going to do anything rash. She says she doesn't know WHAT she's going to do. He says the first thing to do is focus on the child and everything else will fall into place. While you're here, why don't you go in and have a sonogram?" She gets angry and says she's NOT ready for that. Jake: "I just think that if you see a picture of the baby, then --" She tells him to knock it off and he apologizes. Then he pushes her to talk to Dr. Clader. Jake: "There's no commitments, there's no decisions, no tests. Just get some advice from him, ok?" She concedes that she liked volunteering in Dr. Clader's office. He pounds the stake in a little further, saying that she has a FRIEND here who is on her side. What's the harm? She agrees there's no harm in talking to Dr. Clader. He tells her to stay there, he'll be right back. He rushes off, presumably to strong-arm Dr. Clader into leaving the baby that's currently crowning in the Delivery Room so he can soothe Gillian. Gillian stares after him, feeling cornered.

Myrtle, quite the busybody today, strolls into the waiting area and greets Gillian. Myrtle asks if she's there to see the doctor. "Doctor?" questions Gillian as she stands in a hospital waiting area. Myrtle says Jake told her the good news and one's got to start taking care of oneself from the moment one knows oneself is pregnant. Gillian is furious: "You know I'm PREGNANT? I can't believe this!" Myrtle: "Oh, it's a secret?" [This from the woman who has dispensed tea and sympathy to young people since before I was born, who gave her daughter up for adoption from the Fanny Battle Home For Unwed Mothers after her lover died in a tragic acrobatic fall in the carny] Gillian: "No! No, he had no RIGHT!" Myrtle: "But, darling, you have to understand he's very, very excited about it!" Gillian whirls on her: "I don't CARE! He shouldn't have DONE that!" [I hope she sues his sorry ass!]

Gillian pleads with Myrtle: "Myrtle, this child isn't his! It CAN'T be. Can you talk to him, please?" Myrtle: "Well, look, darling, I tried, but he's just full of excitement about this baby!" Gillian: "Well, no matter what happens, somebody's going to get hurt. I don't know what to do!" Myrtle: "Darling, look -- look, it's going to work out somehow, but the important thing is, take care of yourself. Promise?" Myrtle chucks her on the chin and walks away. Gillian looks desolate and undecided as she says to the air: "What am I going to do?" She walks out.

Jake and Dr. Clader walk into the waiting area as Jake says: "Well, she hasn't seen a doctor yet and, frankly, she's a little shaky about the pregnancy. But she trusts you." Dr. Clader warmly remembers Gillian volunteering for him. Jake looks around, but doesn't see Gillian. He starts to breathe heavily: "Um -- she was just here."

BACK ON THE YACHT O' DOOM & BAD MANNERS

Dimitri and Edmund, who are apparently attached at the hip now, hop on their three legs into the main cabin. Edmund says they saw the police tape and ask about any news on Vanessa Cortlandt's shooting. Ryan: "No, they're still trying to sort it out. Thank God she's going to be all right! Shooting, the drugged punch, a nearly drowned guest, and your wife's disappearance -- this boat is definitely cursed!" Edmund apparently has a dandruff problem or some other skin condition, because he keeps scratching behind his right ear. [I watch for his leg to start spinning, but it stays curiously inert]. Dimitri uses his hands to sort imaginary library books as he says they've been able to link David Hayward to a Ly-beed-o-zone shipment. Ryan jumps up and says: "I KNEW IT!" Dimitri tells him not to jump the gun -- they need hard evidence to link David to the spiking the punch and Alex's disappearance. They said they didn't find anything in Bristol, which is why they are there -- maybe they missed something. Dimitri excuses himself to answer his cell phone and yells hello so loudly that I jump in my chair. It's Alex who says: "It's Alex."

Dimitri: "ALEX!" Edmund, looking mildly concerned says: "What?" Dimitri: "WHERE ARE YOU? ARE YOU SAFE?" Alex: "Yeah, I'm fine. I love you." She's standing in a room with wood paneling. There's a gold-toned painting next to her -- looks a little marshy. Dimitri: "WELL, YEAH, I -- I LOVE YOU, TOO. NOW, PLEASE, DARLING, TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE!" Alex: "No, not now, darling. I can't." Dimitri: "ALEX, WHAT'S HAPPENING? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Alex looks wary, as if someone might be coming back into the room: "I wish I could tell you, but I can't. Not yet." She hangs up. Dimitri: "ALEX, HAVE YOU BEEN TAKEN AGAINST YOUR WILL? IS IT HAYWARD? DID HAYWARD ABDUCT YOU? ALEX? ALEX!" [All this yelling is giving me a headache -- I don't blame her for hanging up on him] Edmund with no particular interest in the conversation: "What is it?" Dimitri (dropping his voice to a whisper): "Hold on, hold on. I lost her. I lost her again!"

BACK AT DAVID'S OFFICE OF ILL REPUTE

The camera focuses close-up on three hands grappling with the Libidozone vial. [for a moment, I absurdly think it's like a Police Squad movie (I ALWAYS think of Leslie Nielson when I see Dr. Clader, anyway) where there's a 3rd arm there, but it turns out to be 2 of David's roaming hands and 1 of Leslie's] David: "I never should have made this!" He locks it in his flimsy desk drawer. Leslie: "What are you doing?" David: "I'm going to dispose of it later." Leslie: "You can't!" David: "It's not your call." She comes around the desk and tries to grab the key. Leslie: "No!" David: "GET OUT!" Dixie walks up outside David's office and overhears Leslie threatening him: "If you don't give it to me, I will tell Dixie more than she EVER wants to know about you!" Dixie stares at the door, but doesn't seem to react much.

ON THE NEXT AMC:

At the condo, Adam walks up to Hayley, who is still dressed like the slutty Arlene, and lovingly says: "How are you, sweetheart?" He puts his hands on her shoulders and she whips around, slamming him in the gut with her elbow. He keels over, the breath knocked out of him. Mateo stares at them, waiting for his turn to say something.

At the PV Bar and Grill Bianca accuses Erica: "You were a lot younger than I was when you first had sex, weren't you?"

Dixie stands in front of David in his office, eyes down, and says: "I just heard what Leslie said."

Leslie is on the phone in one of the doctor's offices (probably David's) and says to Tad: "It's about David. You were right about him. I'm ready to give you all the proof you need."

I LOVED it when Derek said no one could get on or off that boat without them (the PVPD) knowing about it -- BWAAHAAHAHAHAHAA!!!! A marching elephant band setting off fireworks could (and probably have) sneak onto that boat without them knowing about it!

Isn't it time someone bought Jake a Betsy-Wetsy doll? A puppy? Maybe even a goldfish? That man has a SERIOUS daddy complex.

I have NO sympathy for Dixie at this point. I can't WAIT to see her face when she finds out about everything David did to manipulate her and the circumstances around her to get her into bed! The fact that Cady McLain does such a great job with her expressions will make it that much better.

Speaking of Dixie, why were her curls still bouncy after having sex and sleeping on her hair?

When Derek gives orders and everyone totally ignores him, as usual, does anyone else get reminded of the movie Animal House when everyone is panicking at the end and the one guy is standing amid the chaos and screaming in a frenzy at everyone to remain calm and that everything is under control?

When Marian saw Vanessa's prone body on deck with Palmer hovering over her, and she said, "Oh my God, this can't be happening!", did anyone else think she was going to ask Palmer if she should get Adam to slip her overboard -- after all, Adam is good at that kind of thing.

That's an amazingly clear cell phone Derek is using, considering he was (as previously mentioned by someone) holding the mouthpiece up to his forehead whenever he spoke. I wonder which carrier he has, 'cause I'm not sure I want to stay with Sprint PCS.

When Mateo told Adam that Derek was their best bet, how many of you immediately yelled "YOU ARE ***DOOMED***!"? On the plus side, as long as Mateo is on deck, his teeth should be sufficient to keep other ships from crashing on the rocks during the storm.

Did you hear Dr. Joe refer to Vanessa as "Vanessie"? Shaqqie, your nickname (I THINK it's yours) has hit the scripts (well, it's only a matter of time until they preface it with "Darth" and drop the "Va")!

So Adam has "hired extra Security", huh? How many does that make now, 500 or so guards? And anyone at all can STILL just walk up to the unlocked front door.

2000: BC - Detailed Friday Update, 12/29/00

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC

Outside of Joe's office, Tad says to Leslie: "What are you doing here?" Leslie: "I had an appointment with your father."

David to Dixie at Wildwind: "It's not in your best interest to be seen with me." Dixie: "I can have pie with whomever I please."

Leo to Bianca: "Did Greenlee push Laura over the yacht?" Bianca: "Yes, she did." Leo: "Why did you wait so long to tell me?" Bianca: "Greenlee blackmailed me."

Derek to Greenlee at the boathouse: "You're under arrest for the attempted murder of Laura English."

ERICA'S HOUSE

Erica stands on the stairs and listens as Leo questions Bianca about Greenlee blackmailing her. She hears Bianca tell Leo that when Greenlee threatened to tell her mother that she was gay, Greenlee knew there was nothing worse that she could hold over her -- NOTHING. Erica seems to feel the pain of knowing how afraid Bianca was of telling her that she was gay. Erica presses her lips together and quickly tiptoes back up the stairs. Leo falls into a chair and puts his hands over his face. He looks stunned and very hurt. He wants to know everything. Bianca tells him that she almost told him and Laura a dozen times, but every time she got close to it, Greenlee seemed to have a 6th sense and would swoop in and threaten her again. Leo is appalled that Greenlee did this -- what kind of person did he fall in love with, for God's sakes?

Leo starts pacing and says he can't believe Greenlee would TORTURE her like that -- like Bianca didn't have ENOUGH to deal with in the last few months! Recapping for new viewers, Bianca says Greenlee knew she was really messed up about everything and that the last thing Bianca could handle was having her mom know that she was gay. Leo tells her not to worry -- he's going to make sure Greenlee doesn't say ANYTHING to Erica about it. Bianca says Erica already knows. Leo feels sick about it -- did Greenlee tell her? Bianca is quick to let him know that Erica knows about it. He asks when, and Bianca says right before Christmas [isn't this the next day?]. It was the day of the mother-daughter shoot and she felt like a fraud. Then Sarah came over. Bianca: "I watched her throw away who she really was to keep something that she never had to begin with. And I decided right then and there that I couldn't live that way, not even for another minute. And then mom walked in on us." Erica saw Sarah and Bianca hugging and threw Sarah out. Bianca: "And then I came out, right here, for Christmas." Bianca says the holidays basically didn't happen -- Erica took off and didn't come back until the next day [TODAY]. Leo: "And when she did?" Bianca: "It's bad, Leo. And I don't know how it's going to get better."

PINE VALLEY JAIL

Derek escorts Greenlee into a cell as she belittles him. He slams the door shut and she puts her hand over her nose as if it smells like an unattended monkey cage and wails: "Oh! I am *NOT* in *JAIL*!!!" Derek gloats that she IS. Greenlee is wearing a black sweater that goes past her 2nd knuckles, but doesn't have enough material to cover her belly button -- go figure. Apparently it was made for a target consumer who happens to be a chimpanzee, so maybe she IS in an unattended monkey cage. Derek says he'll speak to the concierge -- in the meantime, he'll call Woody. She orders him not to do it. He stares at her, then tells her to make herself comfortable. He walks away and she yells that he's going to be sorry for this! She grasps the bars like they are a life-raft as she looks around the cell, no doubt imagining lice, mice and other assorted vermin, not realizing that she fits right in.

Greenlee sniffs, looking at the in-cell combination toilet/drinking fountain, then the bed that's seen more men's asses than she has. A guard walks up and unlocks the cell. She sneers at him as he tells her she can make her phone call now [why couldn't she make it when she was being booked?] He grabs her arm and drags her to the telephone in the hallway. She jerks out of his grasp and he hands her a quarter and walks away. The telephone is so high that the bottom of it is almost level with her neck [you can ALWAYS tell when men design things] and she practically has to do a hook-shot just to drop the quarter in. She calls Leo as the guard wanders close again. She thanks God when Leo answers, telling him he'll never BELIEVE what happened to her! Leo gives a sighing "What?" and she says: "That wench Laura Ingalls or whatever her name is called the cops and had me arrested!" [BWAHAHAHAAA!!] He's silent. She tells him the place smells like a restroom at a train station [like SHE would know what that smells like] and begs him to come down there and bail her out. In a neutral voice, he says he'll be there soon, and then hangs up. He tells Bianca Greenlee is in jail. Bianca: "Stop it!" He says he has to go. Bianca doesn't believe he's going, but he says he has to. She asks what he's going to do and he says he has no idea. He kisses her cheek and leaves. As she watches him walk away, Erica walks up behind her and looks at her with trepidation.

Bianca notices Erica and closes the door, looking at her with her own trepidation. Erica says she heard her tell Leo about what Greenlee did to her. Erica says she is so, SO sorry and hugs Bianca tightly. Bianca hugs her back, savoring the hug as if she'll never have another.

BJS

David and Dixie are having pie at BJs [cleanup at table 7!]. David grumbles that every time he turns around someone in this town is calling him out for something. He grouses that he helped Dimitri Marrick more than anyone else in that town, and not just medically -- he kept his secret against substantial opposition, not the least of which came from Dixie. And now the brothers have the NERVE to accuse him of having something to do with Alex's disappearance? Dixie says the brothers are feeling terrified about what might be happening to Alex -- maybe David can feel a little COMPASSION for what they are going through right now. He gives her a look and drinks from his oversized coffee cup. She asks if he thinks she's being naive. He says he thinks she's being what she always is, practical, kind ... She ruefully echoes "sensible Dixie". He says that's what she is -- he learned that about her when she was working for him. [Oh yeah, she was VERY practical, making out with her husband on Alex's desk, constantly taking time off whenever she pleased to meet her husband at hotels or just spending time with the kids, yelling at David constantly, all the while tempting him with outfits that would make a hooker blush.] He jokes about the temp agency sending over a steady stream of assistants and that he's turned down more of them than Murphy Brown. He half-jokingly asks if she would reconsider working for him.

She tells him not to even THINK it! David grins and says he won't ask her again, despite the fact that his practice is a shambles without her. She laughs and pretends to be about to stab him with her fork [what fun!] He asks how her Christmas was and she says it was nice. She had a profound thought while she watched the kids open their presents [wow, she cleans up well, considering her head must have exploded] -- she misses what it was like being young and experiencing that feeling of joy when ripping open presents [I'm sure David is wishfully thinking of how joyful he would feel opening a gift-wrapped Dixie]. It would be so nice not having to worry about bills and relationships and other people's health [?]. It would be nice to have things easy again like when she was a kid. David says that wouldn't have occurred to him, because it wasn't like that when HE was a kid [insert violin music here], at least as soon as he lost his father. He just walked around angry all the time. She asks if there were moments before his father died when he felt happy and carefree. David: "You mean like when I tortured the neighbor's cat?" She shakes her head at his black humor and he says: "Come on, is that what everyone in this town thinks I DID when I was a kid?" Dixie says not everybody thinks that [that makes ONE]. She insists that must have been SOMETHING then that made him just SO happy. He looks around over at the cash register area [he robbed restaurants?] and says there WAS one thing. Reinforcing my hunch, he says it involves petty larceny and asks if she's up for it.

VALLEY INN

There are keepsake Crystal Ball candles available at the front desk. [Are they engraved? When did they have time to get THAT done?] Leslie strolls up to the desk and hands over the key to the hotel room with a little wink, wink, nudge, nudge conversation about her taking care of the bill until further notice (rather than them billing Tad at his house or office). As she walks away, she spies Tad and saunters over to him with a fake (but saucy) greeting of not expecting to run into him there. He glowers at her and says her office told him she was there. She's happy that he tracked her down. He tells her to cut the sweet talk -- he knows EXACTLY what she's doing and she's going to stop it RIGHT NOW. She looks at him as if she's slightly affronted by his inference and doesn't know what he's talking about.

Leslie starts to walk around him while asking what's wrong with him. He grabs her arm and spins her back around (this is still in the lobby). He says SHE is (what's wrong) and reiterates her sins re the hotel, his kids and his father. Tad asks if she thinks he's the village idiot [since they're in an entire town full of idiots, that's all kind of relevant]. He thinks she's SICK! She protests that maybe she IS sick, which is why she wanted a checkup -- she went to Dr. Joe for a physical because he's the best -- like his son. He lambastes her, saying she didn't go for a checkup -- she went to Dr. Joe to try to feel out some more personal inroads into his family, which she could then use against him. She pouts, seeming to be genuinely hurt that he would think something like that! He still has hold of her arm and has been shaking and jerking it for emphasis. People are walking by them constantly in the busy lobby, but no one gives them a 2nd glance. In another blatant nod to the movie "Fatal Attraction", he wants to know if he should make it easy for her and go find a pet rabbit so she can get busy making soup. She starts to cry and he tells her through gritted teeth to knock it off because it's not going to work. She sits down and apologizes because it keeps happening to her and asks for a handkerchief. Tad looks around, hoping no one is noticing. He pulls a snot-rag out of his pocket and papers come out with it, clattering to the floor. Leslie bends down to pick them up and Tad looks heavenward for patience [so he IS the village idiot]. She's still rooting around on the floor and he bends down thanking her and telling her that he's got it. He sits down and stuffs the fallen papers into his pocket, telling her he knows she's upset -- he's upset too. That's why this has GOT to STOP!

Leslie asks why he's being to awful to her, so dismissive? He says it's because talking to her like an adult doesn't seem to work. He asks her to please stop crying. She says she can't just turn off her feelings! Tad: "You're not supposed to have feelings. Not like this. Not over 10 minutes of insanity that happened between us because some jerk drugged an entire boatload of people with a mickey!" She says it wasn't just that one night for her -- she's had these feelings for him for SO LONG and now that they've come out-- Tad grabs her and roughly jerks her to her feet. FINALLY someone in the lobby notices -- Jake walks up behind them and watches, perplexed. Tad: "You're just going to have to stop them up again! This is a warning, ok? You have to BACK - THE - HELL - OFF!" She notices Jake, then grabs Tad for a passionate hug, clinging to him. Tad peels her off, grabbing both her wrists, then turns to see Jake staring at him. Tad looks extremely guilty as Jake stares at him in disbelief, obviously very disappointed at his brother's behavior.

THE BOATHOUSE

Shrieking with laughter, Dixie runs in holding a giant round tray, with David on her heels, holding another one (the trays are about 2.5' across). He can't believe how fast she drove that getaway car. [FAC BJs ON] I've been robbed by a cat-torturing ego-maniac and his airheaded almost-mistress! Call Derek -- wait a second, what I am I SAYING? Call Janet Dillon -- SHE'LL know what to do! I feel SO VIOLATED!!! [FAC BJs OFF] Dixie wonders what her kids would think, then realizes that she, a responsible young mother, CAN'T be caught stealing restaurant supplies! He tells her to think of the payoff! She frets over the dangerousness of sledding on those things. He says they are aerodynamically charged and asks if she's ready to hit toboggan hill. She challenges him to a race and they run off. [Why did they go to the boathouse in the first place, then?]

ERICA'S HOUSE

Erica tells Bianca that it's all in the past now -- Greenlee won't hurt her anymore. Erica inquires as to Leo's whereabouts and Bianca tells her that he went to see Greenlee, who has been arrested. Erica is THRILLED at that news and hopes that Bianca will be called to testify against her. Bianca says they won't and, besides, it doesn't matter [I think Laura would beg to differ]. Erica thinks it DOES matter -- after all, Greenlee tried to pin an attempted MURDER on Bianca -- she just wishes Bianca would have come to her sooner. Bianca says she tried many times but she chickened out. Erica asks if she was THAT afraid of her. Bianca says that Greenlee only blackmailed her because she LET her -- if she hadn't cared, it wouldn't have mattered. Erica tries to stop her from talking about that whole "gay thing". Bianca: "This 'GAY THING'?" Erica asks who else knows about it -- has she been telling anyone about it? Bianca says no and Erica is VERY relieved. Erica: "Good! Good! Then it's just you and me and Dimitri. And -- and Leo and that horrible Greenlee person that we have to silence." Bianca: "And Uncle Jack and Myrtle." Erica: "Myrtle? ... All right. All right. It doesn't matter because Myrtle is such a great friend. I know Myrtle won't tell anyone. No, I am confident that we can totally contain this whole thing." Bianca: "'CONTAIN THIS'? Mom, you make it sound like an EBOLA outbreak or something!" Erica tells her it's just that it's a private matter -- do not twist her words! Erica needs to know how Greenlee found out about this theory of Bianca's. Bianca takes offense that Erica thinks it's a "theory". Erica ignores that and presses on. Bianca remembers, then turns around, telling Erica that she's going to have a cow. Then she turns back and says that her friend Rain took her to a gay bar on Halloween. Erica is very surprised that there is a gay bar in Pine Valley. Leo had followed Bianca to see if she was okay and Greenlee followed him and has been holding it over Bianca's head ever since. Erica: "First, this Rain -- she tries to turn you into a panhandler, and now she's trying to turn you into a --" Bianca: "A LESBIAN?" Erica closes her eyes for a few moments, trying to choose her words carefully. She tells Bianca that she is SOOO impressionable and doesn't think she should be putting labels on herself or even making a choice like this at this time. Bianca earnestly tells her that it's not a CHOICE, it's who she IS! Erica says she knows that's how she FEELS because of Sarah, but-- Bianca says it's not a FEELING, it's SOO much more than that! Erica: "Then that's even MORE reason why you should see Dr. McGrath IMMEDIATELY." Bianca: "What?" She can't believe Erica wants her to see a SHRINK! Erica happily tells her that she (Bianca) has had a lot of therapy in her life and it's always HELPED her! Bianca flat out refuses and says not THIS time! Erica: "Excuse me?" Bianca tells her that she's not going to get CURED! It doesn't matter how much Erica pays this psychiatrist of hers, it's NOT going to work, so just DROP IT!

Erica says she's already consulted Dr. McGrath [whom I picture as a gruff dog wearing a trenchcoat] Bianca asks if Erica expects him to deprogram her and says it doesn't work that way. Erica thinks it would be good for both of them if she goes with her. Bianca: "Mom, I understand that this is something that affects you very much, but what I am inside is not really up for debate!" Erica says of course not, but she has to LOOK at these confused feelings. Bianca says she's not the one who's confused. Erica: "I need to be sure of that." Bianca: "**I'm** sure!" Erica: "I know that's what you believe, but, Bianca, what *I'm* hearing is a cry for help. And I'm here! I'm here to help you with that!" Bianca: "Mom -- do you think that I would have chosen to be this way? I mean, don't you think that -- that I might like to be the way most other people are? I mean, it would be so much easier. Why wouldn't I want that?" Erica: "Well, that's what Dr. Mcgrath will help you find out." Bianca: "Mom, I'm NOT going to start liking men, not the way you think I'm supposed to." Erica, ever the center of ALL universes: "This belief of yours that you can't have a great relationship with a man -- it's all about not wanting to walk down the same path that I have. You look at me -- I've had one failed relationship with a man after another, and you say to yourself, 'uh-uh, not for me. I'm not going to do that! I'm going to choose another way.' And so you have, mistakenly. And Dr. Mcgrath can help get you back on track!" Bianca: "To happily ever after?" Erica: "Yes! Isn't that the goal, Bianca? Honey, please promise me that you will just think about what I've said. PLEASE." The doorbell rings, interrupting them. It's a deliveryman with a dress for Erica for the Crystal Ball. Bianca says she had forgotten all about it and hadn't even given a thought about what she would wear! Erica is shocked: "Well, honey, YOU'RE not going. Are you?" Bianca looks like she's been slugged in the stomach.

Erica fusses with the dress as Bianca says that they talked about going to the Crystal Ball before Christmas [I thought that, at that point, there wasn't going to BE one]. Erica says a lot has happened since then. Bianca: "You don't want me there?" Erica FINALLY remembers how Bianca feels about something and conveniently reminds her that she always said she HATED parties. Besides, this is an ADULT event [Oooh! What kind of party favors will they be handing out?] Bianca is taken aback: "You think I'm a child?" Erica says she is 16, so she's NOT a full-grown adult yet. Erica busies herself putting her coat on and suggests calling Myrtle to come over and spend some time with Bianca [a babysitter?]. Bianca coldly informs her that Myrtle went to Llanview to see her daughter. Erica sounds disarmed as she intently concentrates on buttoning her coat. Bianca asks if she is ashamed of her. Erica whips her head around: "What?" Bianca: "Is that why you don't want me to go to the ball with you?" Erica grabs her purse and starts waving her arms around like Dimitri: "Bianca, I was being sympathetic to YOUR feelings! I mean, I was trying to do what YOU like. I guess I was wrong AGAIN on that front." Bianca confidently chides her: "Don't do that, please." Erica cooly says: "Look, you do what you want to do, ok? I'll see you later." Bianca: "Where are you GOING?" Erica doesn't even look back as she tosses out: "I have an important errand to run. Bye!" Bianca looks cranky as she stares at the slammed door: "WHAT am I going to DO with her?"

[Have you ever seen the movie "Hairspray"? I now have visions of Erica returning with a doctor who is holding a whirling spiral and trying to hypnotize Bianca into liking boys :-)]

PINE VALLEY JAIL

Greenlee is ecstatic when Leo walks into the hallway outside her cell. She giggles and asks if he BELIEVES this! Leo cooly plays along, saying it's pretty wild -- what happened? She presses her face between the bars and holds onto them with her hands going out, up and back over a crossbar, looking pitiful. She says Derek came up behind her and started reading her her rights -- she almost keeled over! He says she managed to keep her wits about her, though. Greenlee: "Now I know what you went through when your mother had you thrown in here for something you didn't do! I mean, could there be anything worse than having to defend yourself against bogus charges? I was going nuts. I mean, the Crystal Ball is tomorrow and everything and -- and we're not mad at each other and we really should enjoy ourselves." Leo nods slightly and crosses his arms. Greenlee: "It's our first New Year's together and everything. And what about a limo? I'll spring for it." Leo gives a tight-lipped smile. Greenlee: "That way we can drink so much champagne and not have to worry about anything and have an amazing -- well, I don't have to tell you how fabulous it will be!" Leo's smile gets wider, but still tight-lipped as he raises his eyebrows, seeming to agree with her. Greenlee: "So, did they tell you how long it'll be before I can get out of this hole?" Still grinning, Leo shakes his head like he doesn't have any idea. Greenlee: "These things are all about paperwork and making you wait. It makes you crazy! It's inhuman!" Leo slowly walks up to the bars. Greenlee: "It's like -- it's like being this helpless --" Leo grabs her forearms and shakes her. Greenlee: "Leo, what are you DOING?" He pushes her way and spits out that she pushed Laura over the yacht. She stares at him, eyes wide and bulging.

Greenlee walks back over to the bars and asks if THAT's why he's acting so weird -- she did NOT push Laura over that boat! Leo yells at her to SHUT UP!!!! He KNOWS -- does she understand what that means? Can she stop lying to him for THREE SECONDS? Greenlee's brain is busy processing the situation and she raises her eyebrows, calmly and, with a slightly condescending manner, saying that she can see how mad he is and she can accept that-- Leo: "How NICE for you!" She protests that she LOVES him and he loves HER and that's all that matters! He asks what parallel universe she lives in -- she almost KILLED Laura! If that minister hadn't jumped in after Laura, she would have DROWNED! Greenlee cries that he DID, though and Laura is FINE! Leo yells: "Oh, 'she's fine.' Do you HEAR yourself?" Greenlee says she was DRUGGED! Leo: "Oh HERE we go!" He walks a few steps away. She insists she was, they ALL were -- she didn't want Laura to DIE! It was just an impulsive, drug-induced thing that she didn't even think about for 1/2 second. She just remembers being jealous of Laura hanging all over Leo and the next thing she knew ... well, she didn't MEAN it! Leo: "Oh, you didn't mean it? That's going to make a wonderful defense, Greenlee -- 'I didn't mean it, Your Honor.'" She flatly declares that she's NOT going to trial. He glares at her with disgust and says she can go to HELL for all he cares! She's shocked that he would say that and becomes very little-girlish. She says she hates the way that he's looking at her. She admits she messed up -- can't they come back from that? Leo explodes: "I ASKED you! I looked you in the eye, and I asked you! I promised you right there that no matter WHAT the answer was that I would live with it. I would help you. I wanted one honest moment of truth from you, Greenlee, but you kept lying to me over and over!" She mewls that she was afraid she would lose him -- can't he understand that? He says he CAN in some sick, co-dependent way -- it's the OTHER stuff that he can't wrap his head around. Greenlee, ever the center the of universe: "What other stuff?" He tearfully tells her that even if he could forgive her for lying to him and for lying to Laura, does she really think he could forgive her for abusing an innocent, vulnerable kid like Bianca, whom she KNOWS he considers to be like a SISTER to him? Leo: "Greenlee, you tried to ruin that kid's LIFE by blackmailing her to keep quiet! Like she doesn't have enough to worry about without you messing with her head! She has got more guts and more compassion than you could ever even hope to have! What is this, revenge? Because you have a mother who never gave a damn about you, so you try to take hers away from her?" Greenlee: "You know that's not true!" Leo: "Oh, do I? You were there with me when we walked in and we found her in that gay bar. You saw how terrified she was about being OUTED period, let alone to her MOTHER! What kind of a sick human being would go after somebody's biggest fear, Greenlee? How do you ever expect me to look you in the eyes again?" Greenlee desperately tries to explain that she did it because she loves him and wanted to hold on to him. Greenlee: "Can't you see? I'd do ANYTHING to keep you loving me forever!" [I notice that her head almost fits through the bars -- now THAT would be a great scene, having her head stuck :-)]

Leo tells her that she has a pretty twisted idea of love -- it's awfully familiar. She asks what he means. Leo: "Well, my mother could really relate to your idea of devotion." Greenlee: "DON'T compare me to Vanessa!" Leo: "Greenlee, you're just like her. Face it. You let Bianca take the fall for pushing Laura over the yacht just like my mother let me take the fall for killing her gigolo boyfriend. It's a pretty tight race on who's a bigger bitch." Greenlee starts crying and whining, saying she's not GOOD at this -- she's never been in love before! Leo: "Oh, more revisionist history? Wonderful." She guesses he's talking about Ryan and says she NEVER loved Ryan, but it took loving Leo for her to realize it. Greenlee: "I can't lose you, Leo, I CAN'T! Help me get out of here! Let me make it up to you! Let me fight for you the right way! I'll DIE without you, Leo!" Leo leans into the bars and bends down to her level, saying: "I'll DIE if I STAY." She cries and begs him to listen to her. He straightens up, reaches into his pocket and pulls out his keys, dramatically dropping them to the floor of the cell. Leo: "I will never set foot in that apartment again, do you hear me?" Leo: "Take care of Happy. Hopefully you can take better care of him than you can yourself." [And how is she supposed to do that from behind bars?] He walks out at she continues to cry and beg.

Greenlee covers her face as she cries and walks back to sink down onto the dreaded, vermin-infested, urine-soaked (in her mind) mattress. She rocks back and forth, keening at her loss. Derek quietly escorts Woodruff to the hall outside her cell. Greenlee tries to compose herself and snarls at Derek for calling her grandfather. She walks over to the bars, wiping her nose and eyes, telling him she never wanted him to see her in there. He calmly asks if she was drugged on that yacht. She fervently answers in the affirmative. He says that that will be her lawyer's defense and they'll get the charges dropped. She asks if he called her parents. He doesn't say yes or no. He takes a deep breath and merely says that they are in Switzerland. Greenlee: "They don't want anything to do with me, do they?" Woodruff starts to say something, but is at a loss for words, finally saying: "Let me go make sure your bail is in order." He walks out. Greenlee cries so hard that her knees buckle and she sinks to the floor. [I wonder why they put a toilet right next to the bars instead of on the other side of the room]

VALLEY INN

Jake walks up. Fresh out of her embrace of Tad and acting like it never happened, Leslie says she's glad he got the divorce papers so quickly and thanks him for meeting her on such short notice. Jake wants to be sure he signed and initialed everything correctly. She says she can check it right now -- does he mind waiting with his brother? She walks away. Jake demands that Tad tell him what the hell is going on between him and Leslie -- what did he just walk in on? Tad stares.

Tad says it's hardly a big deal. He had to give Leslie some bad news and she got all emotional and hugged him, that's all. Jake wants to know what the bad news is. Tad sputters a little, then says he had to tell her he was taking her off retainer at Chandler Enterprises, that's all. Jake belligerently says it's an odd thing for her to be hugging HIM about. Tad says maybe that's just her style. Jake says she's his lawyer and he knows that's NOT her style, that's why he's asking so many questions. Before Tad can respond, Leslie clops back and says Jake signed everywhere he was supposed to and they can move forward. She pleasantly says she hopes she'll see him at the Crystal Ball. He says he'll be there. [WHY? It's being hosted by his soon-to-be-ex-wife and the man she cuckolded him with for MONTHS. David Hayward will be there (drooling over Dixie, no doubt) to antagonize him, and everyone in town knows what happened. In fact, I don't think ANYONE except maybe Leslie, Ryan and Gillian are going to be happy to be there! What a crappy start to the millenium!] Jake throws a nasty "I'll catch YOU later!" to Tad and stalks off. Leslie, still unable to take a hint delivered by a crane and an I-beam, asks Tad if he'll save a slow dance for her. Tad just stares at her. He grimly says: "I don't want you talking to me and I don't want you talking to anybody in my family! The LAST thing I need right now is you hanging all over me at that Crystal Ball! You don't come anywhere near ME and you don't come anywhere near DIXIE. As a matter of fact, it might be better if you didn't come at ALL." Leslie pouts and says: "Look, I'm not trying to ruin your marriage, Tad. You've got it all wrong! If you would just be sweet to me --" she whines. Tad: "That's it! Enough, ok? ENOUGH. Now you're being DELIBERATELY dense [NOW?], and I can't DO this anymore!" He stalks off. Leslie gives a determined little moue, walks over to a couch, takes out her cell phone and places an order for a necklace she saw in the window. Her husband wants to buy it for her to wear to the Crystal Ball tomorrow night. She uses Tad's credit card (part of what fell out of his pocket earlier) to pay for it.

THE BOATHOUSE

Dixie and David yelp and shriek with glee as they run back into the boathouse, carrying the stolen restaurant trays. Dixie says she can TOTALLY see him doing that as a kid, but she could NOT see him doing it on a restaurant tray. [FAC BJS ON] Neither could I -- now that you've planted your hairy ass on it, Dr. D, go ahead and KEEP it! [FAC BJS OFF] He says he used to use the one that goes with his mother's sterling silver tea set [he must have had a really little butt at the time]. She asks if Vanessa ever found out. He said yeah, when he wrapped it around a TREE! They both laugh gaily [yeah, I'm sure Michael Kennedy and Sonny Bono are laughing, too]. Dixie's hands are freezing, so naturally David offers to warm them up ["Here, let's start a fire -- I've got the PERFECT stick you can rub!"] As David rubs her hands over a convenient orange glow and looks into her eyes, she literally sways with desire. David trembles at her look.

David sensuously rubs Dixie's hands, never taking his eyes off of her. He throatily asks if that's better. David: "How about this?" He bends down and puts his mouth to within 1/8" of her hands and sensuously exhales on them with his hot, steamy breath. Dixie is having trouble breathing, in a ZING-ZING-ZING kind of way. Suddenly we hear a boy talking about making 3 goals. Then Junior answers. Dixie realizes who it is and jumps up. She pulls David with her as they quickly climb a few stairs to get out of sight. The other boy and Junior stop just outside the boathouse and discuss the team efforts. Dixie and David alternately hold their breaths and breath hard. Dixie is humiliated and David seems to realize that, once again, he's put the woman he loves into a very uncomfortable moral position [he also looks like he wants to take advantage of her physical position by spooning with her].

After the commercials, the boys continue to talk, then finally go back the way they came, wielding hockey sticks. Dixie tells David she doesn't know why she didn't just say hello. David softly says: "Yes, you do. We both do, Dixie. How much longer are you going to go on pretending that this isn't right in front of us?" Dixie looks even more flustered and says that Tad is going to be looking for her and she has to go. She runs out of the boathouse. David steps down and watches her go, then tosses his gloves down in a "CURSES, foiled again!" manner.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Bianca lets Jack in and she grouses about her mother not wanting her to go to the Crystal Ball because she's ashamed of her. Jack insists that's not it. Bianca says Erica is afraid she will embarrass her and she wants to lock her in her room with 17 Brad Pitt movies. Jack says they can't let that happen, so HE will take her to the Crystal Ball. Bianca wryly says that won't win him any points with her mom. He says he GUARANTEES that won't win any points with Erica, but it WILL save Bianca from Erica's worst instincts. [Oh yeah, take Bianca to a public forum so that Erica can be SURPRISED and blurt something out in a totally Erica fashion that will humiliate ALL of them!] Jack says that he thinks taking Bianca to the Crystal Ball is what Travis would do if he were there [actually, taking her back to Seattle is what Travis would do]. Bianca gratefully tells Jack that he's totally awesome. She asks about Erica and he says Erica will just have to deal with it. He wants to know if she's going to be his date or not, and she happily says that she IS. They lovingly hug.

VALLEY INN

Leo walks up to the concierge, makes a little small talk and then asks if there's any chance his old suite is available. The concierge asks if there's any chance he can PAY for it. Leo gives an embarrassed laugh and says he hadn't thought of that. He walks out.

PINE VALLEY JAIL

Erica walks up to Greenlee's cell. Greenlee is sitting dejectedly on the bunk. When she sees Erica, she rolls her eyes and asks: "What're YOU lookin' at?" Erica: "EVIL. INCARNATE." Greenlee throws her head back and cackles with glee, just like an evil witch. She agrees she's right up there with Attila the Hun. Erica speaks plainly and deliberately as Greenlee frowns: "You listen to me, you nasty, poor excuse for a woman. You say one word about my daughter -- one WORD -- and I will find you and I will ruin your life. And don't think I can't or that I WON'T. You may be able to bully a child, but you have never met anyone quite like ME. And as for Leo, he is well rid of you, and by now I'm sure he's completely over you. Get used to this feeling, Greenlee. This is your life." She confidently teeters off. Greenlee: "You don't scare me. And I'm NOT losing Leo to ANYBODY."

ON THE NEXT AMC:

Ryan makes the following announcement as we see Dimitri, Erica, Laura, Leo, Greenlee, Woodruff, Jackson and Bianca: "Princess Andrassy and I would like to welcome you to the fourth annual Crystal Ball!"

Liza to Adam: "I will marry you -- tonight!"

Vanessa to Hayley: "You're harboring some secret about Arlene, and I know what it is."

David holds Dixie's face in his hands, then passionately gloms onto her waiting mouth.

The scene opens with Dimitri looking through a window in a door to Edmund's room at Oakhaven (nothing like being on display to help treat violent behavior). Setting aside the preposterousness of locking Edmund up on Dimitri's say-so, I couldn't help but notice the glaringly obvious chipped paint and rusty bars on the headboard of Edmund's bed. What is this? An expensive psychiatric hospital puts a MILLIONAIRE (if not BILLIONAIRE) into a room with a bed that looks like it belongs in a Rumanian orphanage? All things considered, shouldn't it at least have a PADDED headboard?

Brooke says Laura doesn't want HER to press charges right now (re Laura being pushed overboard). Excuse me? Laura is 20 or 21 (maybe even 22). If anyone is going to press charges, it will be Laura!

Why would LESLIE get TAD's test result for sexually transmitted diseases?

Why didn't Opal hear Tad talking to Leslie in the bathroom, ESPECIALLY after he turned the shower off (again)?

Did anyone else want to (continue to) slap Gillian when she kept thanking Jake over and over and over for believing Ryan and how much it meant to her because of RYAN and how RYAN would never do something like that, blah, blah, RYAN, blah, blah? This girl just NEVER knows when to shut up, does she?

Of all the places in PVH, why did Dixie choose DAVID's office to make her phone call to Tad, especially when she JUST finished her conversation with Joe about keeping away from David because of the gossip? Then she goes out to her former desk and bends over in front of him so he can get a nice view of her ass while she writes a note. GOD she's pigheaded and STUPID! Then she has the NERVE to accuse HIM of following HER!

If Dixie brought the boys with her to NY, why did she surprise Tad with a shower while they were waiting outside, and then immediately send them downstairs so they could have sex?

Geez, aren't they even going to PRETEND they aren't stealing the script from "Fatal Attraction"? Leslie actually SAYS "I won't be IGNORED!", then she tricks the boys into going with her away from the hotel (assuming they actually go).

Based on the spoiler for Wednesday's show (Winifred telling Adam that his daughter has been arrested for murder), I'd say Colby is the epitome of Adam's bad seed. Oh wait, they're probably talking about Hayley ... never mind.

2000: BC - Mon, 10/2/00

They made such a big deal about Dimitri being out at SOS alone because Alex is working late that I'm guessing Finola Hughs is now on maternity leave.

Why do people insist on going to SOS for the SOLE PURPOSE of discussing important matters? Brooke and Eliot are there to talk about the strong possibility of them (but really only Brooke) getting custody of Ricky tomorrow. I'm sure nightclubbing the night before the hearing will go over well. Once her wrap comes off, though, it's clear Brooke is dressed for action!

Erica and Jack just happen to stop by and have drinks at SOS, totally honing in on Bianca (although I suspect Jack is merely tagging along in a desperate effort to run interference). You had to love this little interchange between mother and daughter: Erica: "Honey, look, I didn't come here to spoil your good time!" Bianca: "Then why DID you come here, Mom?" Erica: "Well certainly not to spy on you, I mean my mother used to watch me like a hawk -- I would NEVER do that to you, NEVER! Believe me, I'm NOTHING like Grandma!" Bianca: "No kidding." BWAHAHAHAAAA!

Both Jake and Joe have tried to tactfully let Gillian know that they know she and Ryan have been having an affair. The question is: Did Gillian actually get that? She's kind of stupid, you know :-) Whether she gets it or not is irrelevant, because she pledges her everlasting love to Ryan when she calls to tell him they can't meet tonight, then goes to Jake's room to seduce him. There she is taking Jake's clothes off. The sax player is in high gear (but is Mr. Winky?) She HAS to complicate things, doesn't she? She can't think about it for a SINGLE day? There is NO hope for this airhead!

They're going a little overboard with the "meaningful" songs lately, aren't they? "All By Myself" for Brooke's "last dance" with Eliot -- now THERE'S a sledgehammer being slammed over our heads!

Do you think Joe has his stethoscope to the wall of Jake's bedroom? Is his eardrum exploding from the saxophone?

Jake takes a bullet to his spine, is paralyzed for a couple of days, flies home to PV, but still can barely get out of his chair. He's clearly in pain, but he's up and about and climbing stairs by nightfall and now he and Gillian have every intention of consummating their love, despite his impotency and jetlag. Uh-huh.

2000: BC - Detailed Friday Update, 9/15/00

PREVIOUSLY ON AMC

Alex to Dimitri: "You were talking about moving out of Wildwind." Edmund: "I'd like you to stay."

Greenlee to Leo: "Leo, I'm seriously scared.

Gillian: "Jake might survive a bullet, but will he survive it when I tell him about us?" [he's managed without her so far]

David: "What a fool I am for thinking that I could make you forget Dimitri!" Erica: "You're a loser, and you always will be!"

DAVID'S OFFICE

David and Erica are lying in each others arms on the couch, post-desktop-boink. David is still wearing his black long-sleeved shirt and he's wearing black boxers -- a nicely muscled thigh takes center stage. Erica is wearing a white, high-cut lacy teddy. They marvel at how magnificent their lovemaking was -- it hasn't been that amazing since the last time they had a big fight! [I marvel that there doesn't appear to be a wet spot OR butt-cheek prints on Alex's desktop] Erica says lack of passion was never their problem. David suggests that something this good should be worth holding onto. Erica says she refuses to have a relationship based on animal lust. David: "Erica, animal lust is NOT all we have. But since we DO have it, we should at least cherish it, enjoy it, build on it." The hired saxaphonist is busy playing their tune. Erica doesn't want to think about it, she just wants to DO IT and they commence having another go at "the most intense, pleasurable sex it's possible to have" [I marvel in astonishment that the door to David's office IS actually locked!] Suddenly Dixie tries to come in, after pounding on the door and yelling to ask if he's in there, she gets out her own keys. David and Erica jump up and quickly pull their lower garments on, but he never calls out to Dixie to wait a sec, so she just barges in -- David and Erica are still only partially dressed and Dixie gasps.

HUNTING LODGE

Dimitri and Alex snuggle on the couch. A large, ornate desk chair is blocking the view of Finola Hugh's extended baby-belly. Her leg is also raised and her hand is across her lap, but the camera is too high as it pans around the chair, and we STILL see more than a little evidence of her pending bundle of joy. Dimitri tells her how, when they were apart, the memory of them doing the Sunday Times crossword puzzles kept him going. Alex stumbles over her words (and he wonders if that means they can't do the crosswords, after all) as she tries to tell him that she just can't believe he's actually THERE! They lovingly kiss.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Greenlee is wearing an odd, boxy suit consisting of a shiny mauve material with black piping, a black lace tank top and a truly ugly chapeaux [it looks like scrap dark foam rubber pieces pressed together, but it later turns out to be velvety black leopard print]. She stands in horror looking at Wade who is sitting in one of Erica's chairs. She asks why he's there and he says he's angry with her -- she called the police. She denies it -- the police DID question her, but she didn't tell them anything -- they have a business arrangement which will shortly conclude, and then they'll never have to see each other again. Wades says that's not quite accurate. He has different plans, but he doesn't feel he can confide in her as to what those plans might be. She begs him not to hurt her grandfather. Wade: "You will have forgotten about your grandfather long before you ever forget about me." Arrival noises are heard outside the front door. Wade warns her not to tell anyone about his little visit. He leaves the back way -- Leo and Bianca enter the front way. Bianca, seeing Greenlee's getup, lambastes her for getting into Erica's things (Oh PUH-LEASE!!!! Erica would never be caught DEAD in THAT outfit and it IS way too big -- it's too big on Greenlee!]

AN EASTERN EUROPEAN HOSPITAL

Ryan asks Gillian how she is doing and she says it doesn't matter -- the only thing that matters now is Jake. He's in a lot of pain. Ryan tells her not to make it harder than it has to be. Gillian doesn't know what to say to Jake. Ryan says she doesn't need to say anything right now, but she says she thought about it all last night, and she HAS to tell him. Ryan: "Now?" Gillian says yes, as soon as he's strong enough [Soooo, NOW? No not Now, but Now Now, or maybe Later Now.]. He would want to know. Ryan lovingly kisses her a couple of times and they meaningfully hold hands and stare soulfully into each other's eyes (this is in a hospital corridor next to a busy nurses' station and just outside Jake's room). She goes into Jake's room. Jake's eyes are closed and his face is grimacing in pain. He hears her and opens his eyes and looks lovingly at Gillian.

Gillian tells him she was there last night, and he says he knows. He says he's having a little residual pain from the surgery, but that means he's healing -- it would be worse if he didn't feel ANYTHING and BTW, it's okay if she cracks a smile now. She smiles in embarrassment and pulls her hair back from her face (she's doing this CONSTANTLY). She says she doesn't even know where to begin to tell him what she's feeling right now about how he took a bullet to save her and Ryan. Jake asks how Ryan is and Gillian guiltily jumps: "What do you MEAN?" Jake points out that Ryan took out a sniper and killing a man is very traumatic. Gillian agrees it was traumatic for ALL of them. He tells her to tell Ryan how much he appreciates Ryan saving her life [I keep pointing out to the TV that Gillian should never have been there in the first place, and bringing Ryan along wasn't such a great idea, either] Gillian says she knew Jake was a good man, but she had no idea HOW great. Jake goes modest, but then groans in pain [it ain't easy being modest]. Gillian offers to leave, but he grips her hands [I notice her hand is gripped over his IV needle] and asks her to stay -- they have a lot to cover. Gillian looks worried. In the corridor, Ryan paces and broods.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Greenlee tells Leo nothing happened -- she was just there all alone and she panicked. Leo scoffs at Greenlee being scared. Bianca still wants to know why Greenlee is wearing her mother's clothes [a notion which continues to make me plotz]. Greenlee acts like a zombie and says she hasn't been herself lately. Bianca says she's being EXACTLY like herself and Greenlee distractedly says she'll go and take them off. Leo tries to make Greenlee get a move-on on changing out of Erica's clothes and says she should grab any magazines, food, dirty laundry and whatever else she'll need to stay snug in the laundry room. Leo says they (he and Bianca) have to go get ready for the party. Greenlee freaks and says she CAN'T be left there alone! She looks frantically over her shoulder toward the open French doors. Leo and Bianca guess that Wade has been there and Bianca is incensed that that man was here in her mother's house [she looks as if she just found out that donkeys, goats and gibbons had been grazing in the living room! HELLO??? What did you guys expect? Greenlee is hiding out from a mobster and you're SURPRISED he showed up?] Leo takes a half-second look outside the doors and declares that Wad is gone, then strides to the phone to call the police. Greenlee REALLY freaks and says he can't do that -- Wade already knows about the first visit from the police -- he knows about everything she does and, yes, of COURSE he threatened her!

DAVID'S OFFICE/LIVE PORN THEATER

Rather than simply leave, Dixie drops her papers and sputters about Adam's attending physician needing David to look over some lab results. Rather than asking Dixie to give them a couple of minutes, David sputters about X-rays as he self-consciously buttons his shirt, then tells Dixie to dig up some bloodwork there in his office while he goes to get the X-Rays, leaving a still-dressing Erica with Dixie. Buttoning her sweater, Erica babbles to Dixie that she just stopped by to tell David about Stuart coming back to life. Then she expansively asks if Dixie knew that DIMITRI was alive! Dixie is grinning like a crazed circus clown and manically sorting through all the papers David had swept to the floor to clear Alex's desk [which must have been polished with Love Potion #9 and pheromones]. She gushes effusively that, yes, it's WONDERFUL! She's so glad that Erica finally knows the truth -- every time Erica showed up when Dimitri was there being treated, Dixie just felt SO AWFUL! Erica: "Dimitri was being treated? Here? By David?" Dixie "uhhhh -- oh -- uhhhhhhh" Just as David walks back in, Dixie conveniently finds the lab results. She stands, hands them to David and beats a comically hasty retreat. David walks up to Erica laughing sheepishly at their getting caught. When he looks at Erica's face, though, he realizes she's upset about something. David: "What?" Erica: "How long have you known that Dimitri was alive?" David looks annoyed in a doctor/patient c onfidentiality kind of way, steps back and straightens up.

He says they've already had their daily argument about Dimitri and he refuses to fight with her about Dimitri ever again! Erica: "Oh, well, that's where you are so completely wrong! I came in here, and I told you that Dimitri was alive. And you -- you kept quiet. And then we argued about Dimitri and you kept quiet. And we just MADE LOVE, and you didn't tell me about Dimitri! David plays the doctor/patient card and Erica fumes that DIXIE knew about it! He tells her don't EVEN go THERE! She asks if he doesn't see how cruel and unjust it was to keep the news from her: "Me -- the most important woman in his LIFE!!!" David yells that she is NOT the love of Dimitri's life! Erica: "I certainly AM!" David: "He's MARRIED, Erica! And even Alex, HIS OWN WIFE, didn't know until recently!" Erica: "You could never, EVER accept what was between Dimitri and me, not EVER! It was eating you up alive all the time, knowing that Dimitri was the [all together now] LOVE OF MY LIFE!!" David tells her that her fantasy world must be impenetrable -- he MUST be jealous -- it can't possibly be because he was constrained by medical ethics! Erica: "You don't have any ethics! Oh, you're a doctor, but to you that means you can just do anything and say anything you want to hurt anybody you want!" David says that if they want a relationship, they are going to have to learn to TRUST each other. Erica: "Me have a relationship with YOU? No, I'm sorry, that is a product of YOUR fantasy, doctor! David: "All right, fine, fine. You know something? You're absolutely right. I mean, even the best sex in the world isn't worth this!" Erica: "What happened here this afternoon was a mistake. It was a complete mistake. And as for being the best sex in the world -- that is YOUR opinion!" She says she had come there to ask David to be her date for her daughter's party that night, but she'd rather go alone! She whirls (her hair looking like a used mop due to the sweaty sex) and storms out. Dixie waits all of about 11 seconds to open the door and say "Me and my big mouth, huh?" David shakes his head.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Leo apologizes for calling Derek and says they have to smuggle Greenlee out of town and then he'll find some way to take care of Wade. She says she doesn't want Leo to get hurt. Leo says he'll be smart [BWAHAHAHAHAA!!] Bianca reminds them about the party. They decide that Greenlee WILL go, after all, and they can smuggle her out as the party winds down. Leo: "You'll be safer there than here. It'll be harder for wade to kill you in a crowd. Greenlee: "That's not funny." Leo: "Call your maid and have her send over some clothes. We'll leave from here. Greenlee: "Ok, Leo, whatever you say ... Oh, GOD! I just realized how much trouble I'm in! My maid couldn't accessorize to save her life!" She runs up to change clothes. Leo apologizes to Bianca for all the trouble and she brushes it off as nothing -- she'd rather be iced by a mobster than go to this party! They go to get ready. [I marvel at Bianca's (and Leo's for that matter) obliviousness to the danger they are all in]

AN EASTERN EUROPEAN HOSPITAL

Jake tells Gillian how beautiful she is. He says he thought about her every day since he left Pine Valley and he's ashamed of himself [as well he SHOULD be!] She cuts him off and says he was saving lives every day. He demurs and says he just did what he had to do once he got there, just like Joe or Tad or many others would have done. She says the children are alive because of HIM. He denies it and says they are alive because of HER! And it's HIS fault -- he made her come into a war zone to look for him and he put her in danger. She protests that that's not it! He talks about seeing such horrible things since he has been in Chechnya and seeing people lose EVERYTHING. It made him see that the reason WHY he left PV, the hurt and sense of betrayal he had, was just about pride. All he was thinking about was himself [uh huh] and he hurt her. She says SHE hurt him, TERRIBLY! He says a lot of people kept the truth about Colby from him, but he took it out on HER and walked out on their marriage and gave up what they had [not much]. He's ashamed and apologizes for it. He should have loved her as much as she loves him. Jumping in front of the sniper was the least he could do for everything she's done for him. Gillian, of course, is wracked with guilt and protests throughout his speech.

HUNTING LODGE

Alex and Dimitri get ready for Bianca's party [considering what just happened with them and Erica at David's office, they have a lot of damn nerve, don't they?]. Dimitri is buttoning the cuffs on his extremely creased and rumpled shirt. Alex is, of course, dressed in black (a very nice, cross-draped dress with a big silver pin [the nut doesn't fall far from the tree]. They laugh and cuddle and talk about going to Vadsel. The doorbell rings and Alex laughs over her shoulder to Dimitri as she answers the door. It's Edmund, wearing a tuxedo and bearing a corsage, asking if they are ready to go to Bianca's party.

Edmund says he WAS invited by Bianca. Alex looks shame-faced and says they know (she was THERE, after all). Dimitri reminds Edmund that circumstances have changed. Edmund says he's not going to just lock himself in his room and ponder his awareness of the changed circumstances. Dimitri asks if Edmund thinks he and Alex are going to go as a couple. Edmund says no, the THREE of them are going to go together and present a united front to avoid gossip. Word has spread that Dimitri is back and everyone will be watching them closely. Dimitri: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I guess it IS wise to complicate matters with the three of us going. Sure. I understand. Edmund plays the children-getting-hurt card [is he planning on bringing the kiddies?]. Edmund says they are going to present a united front to the world, even if it's a lie. Alex and Dimitri share conspiratorial looks and Dimitri walks into the bedroom. Alex gives a slightly challenging look Edmund's way and Edmund gives an unquestionably challenging look back.

AN EASTERN EUROPEAN HOSPITAL

Gillian tells Jake he had EVERY right to feel hurt and betrayed and his has NOTHING to be ashamed of [I beg to differ]. He wants her to forgive him, not just for risking her life [HELLO? SHE'S the one who dropped in uninvited!], but for walking out on their marriage and what they had. She says there's nothing to forgive. He begs some more, gasping in pain, and she relents, forgiving him. She notes his pain and says she's going to go get a nurse. He stops her and tells her not to be afraid whenever she sees that he's in pain. It looks scary, but it's normal and he's okay. He's going to survive this. He wants to pick up where they left off, but he knows they can't do that and she agrees. He says that before it was all about Colby. She cries as he begs her to give him another chance to show her how much he loves her.

ERICA'S HOUSE

Bianca descends the stairs in a becoming floor-length black dress (fitted, spaghetti-strapped bodice and full skirt), with a lacy white shawl over her arms. Her hair is upswept. She stands in front of Erica's portrait and looks humbled and unworthy in the glow of it's magnificent beauty. She sighs and walks toward a mirror, her shawl practically dragging on the ground. As she dejectedly checks herself out, we hear Erica's loud sigh at the vision of beauty in her living room. Erica is still dressed in the boinking clothes, but her hair is pinned up now. She continues to gush over Bianca and says that if she's to be put to shame by a younger and more beautiful woman, she's glad it's Bianca. Erica starts to tell Bianca she looks perfect, but stops to adjust Bianca's hair and says that NOW she looks perfect! Bianca humbly tells Erica that she'll NEVER look as beautiful as she. Erica apologizes for being late, but she's had a very traumatic afternoon: "But this is YOUR night, so I'm just going to put all that behind me!" Bianca tries to tell Erica that she invited an extra person. Erica waves the importance of it away and says she's always happy to meet Bianca's friends. Bianca informs her that the person she invited was Travis. [Erica really IS having a traumatic day, isn't she?] Erica is aghast and asks why Bianca would DO that to her? Bianca stares in confusion.

THE HUNTING LODGE

Alex asks Edmund if he thinks this is a good idea. If he REALLY wants to go to the party, she and Dimitri will stay home. Edmund says he doesn't give a damn about the party -- people are going to talk about them no matter WHAT they do [so why is he INSISTING on the three of them going?] because what's happened is too deliciously bizarre not to. She agrees and apologizes. He tells her it's not her fault. He says they'll get through it and someday they'll all laugh about it, but right now he doesn't want to talk about Poor Edmund who gained and brother and lost a fiancee. They'll let people stare and act as if they are all together. [Does anyone else have a say in the matter? Are ANY of them thinking about the impact this will have on BIANCA? Is ANYONE besides Erica happy about this party?] Dimitri returns to the room as Alex agrees to get it over with. [Are these people are going to be the life of the party, or what? Why would Bianca want a bunch of old, angry people at her party?]

ERICA'S HOUSE

Bianca is shocked at her mother's reaction to inviting Travis to the party. Bianca: "I didn't do ANYTHING to YOU. I thought you said that this was MY party!" Erica: "Of course it's your party, sweetheart! And if you -- if you want to invite your father to your party, well, then, of course you may. I mean, what *I* want doesn't matter." Bianca explains that Travis was going to be in D.C. anyway and since he'd be so close anyway, she invited him. He said he couldn't think of anything better! Erica: "Oh. Well, then, it's a fait accompli, isn't it? Ok. Well, I'm sure you two will have a wonderful time together. Uh -- that unbearable WIFE of his isn't going to be here, too, is she?" Bianca: "No, she's not, and she's not UN- [she sighs and gives up] -- Barbara is home in Seattle." Erica tries to explain that she's put a lot of time and effort into the party and it will be very stressful for her to try and make sure everything runs smoothly, so she would prefer not to talk to her [Barbara]. Bianca: "Mom, I really don't see why having Dad there would cause you any more stress!" Erica rolls her eyes at Bianca's utter naivete' in the face of marital discord, deceit and [losing] custody battles. Bianca tells her she doesn't have to talk to Travis because he has lots of friends in PV. Erica grits her teeth and tells Bianca that she already said it's FINE if she wants her father there. She's wasn't as enthusiastic as she should have been because she really has had a DREADFUL day [pause for reaction -- no reaction] -- but never mind about THAT. Bianca flounders and babbles that she just thought that if the press were there, Travis would know how to handle it and could help her cope with it. Erica is insulted that Bianca didn't believe her when she said there would be no press at the party. She starts into a speech about Bianca not believing in her, but Leo interrupts, bopping into the room in his tuxedo and exclaiming: "Put on your sunglasses, ladies -- I'm looking GOOD!" He tells Bianca she cleans up nice and she replies "Likewise". Leo looks Erica up and down and chides her on her attire -- she's not wearing THAT to the party, is she? Her patience is being tried as she explains that of COURSE she's not going to wear that -- she's not dressed yet because she's just had a really WRETCHED DAY [pause for reaction -- no reaction]. Leo snaps his fingers: "Chop, chop!"

Greenlee walks in behind Erica, but tries to stay out of her line-of- sight. Leo tries to buy time by nattering on about how Erica can't be fashionably late to her own party -- but then maybe ERICA can. Greenlee tiptoes to the front door and somehow manages to open it without Erica hearing her, despite Erica being only about 4' away from her. Erica tells Leo that, as Bianca's escort, he has to be on his best behavior -- attentive, but not TOO possessive. He needs to be there if Bianca needs rescuing. He promises to be a regular St. Bernard, minus the brandy. Erica turns almost all the way around and Leo calls to her because he just remembered he had to ask her something. Impossibly, Erica doesn't see Greenlee slipping out the door. Turning back to Leo, Erica also does not hear the door latch click into place. Leo pretends to forget what he wanted to ask her, but is saved by the doorbell -- it's GREENLEE! He and Bianca share conspiratorial, whew!-that-was-close looks. Erica answers the door and is stunned into silence by Greenlee gaily announces to Leo that she's finally there. Erica's eyes get big as she follows Greenlee into the room. She asks Leo what Greenlee is doing there. Leo walks over to Erica and lowers his voice in confidence: "Greenlee couldn't find a date to the party -- it's kind of a mercy date." Erica shakes her head in I-can't-believe-this wonder and asks Leo if he remembers what they were JUST talking about. He says he's more than enough for 2 dates. Erica doubts it. Leo puts his arms around both Greenlee and Bianca and says: "Chop-chop, ladies! Bene, bene! Andiamo! Ragazze! You better hurry up, Erica! There isn't going to be enough beluga left!" The trio leaves and Erica gnashes her teeth and makes faces, finally exclaiming to the empty room: "I don't BELIEVE this! And what is the point of being the PERFECT MOTHER when no one else cooperates?" She heaves a sigh and puts her hands on her hips.

AN EASTERN EUROPEAN HOSPITAL

Gillian tells Jake that he's right -- they can't just pick up where they left off. Jake continues to grimace in pain as he says he loves her. The pain gets worse and he's writhing and moaning on the bed (but insisting he's fine). Joe and a nurse come in and Gillian states the obvious.

THE HUNTING LODGE

Dimitri says it's time to get going. Edmund asks for a second and he walks over to the mirror, pinning the corsage on his lapel [I thought it was for Alex -- okay, it's now a boutonniere]. He stares at himself and remembers asking Alex to marry him, finding Dimitri and Alex together after an obviously intimate reunion, choking Dimitri, and asking Alex how he's supposed to stop loving her. He breaks from his reverie to discover that he has crushed the boutonniere. He sighs and puts it down, following the Marricks out the door.

DAVID'S OFFICE

David asks Dixie why it always ends like that with shouting matches and hurt feelings on both sides. Dixie says she doesn't know -- she thinks she's depleted her entire arsenal of advice with him :-) He ruefully says it obviously wasn't taking -- and now he gets to watch as she and Tad work through their rough spot in NY. Dixie tells him to not even go there [twice in one episode] -- it was SO embarrassing the way she just reacted and ran out. David thinks her reaction was entirely appropriate, given what she saw. Dixie says that all they did that night was to hold their tongues [well, not ENTIRELY] and resist all impulse to yell and scream. David: "What if the person you are with DESERVES to be yelled at for being SO pigheaded and self-involved?" He throws up his hands at the futility of it. Dixie says her mom used to say: "You hate most in others what you see in yourself." David feels like he's just been insulted. Dixie wishes him well with his problems and gets up to leave. He's disappointed that she's leaving and they give each other meaningful looks -- she firmly (but not with the usual lip-gritting or nervousness) tells David that she HAS to go home to TAD and she walks out. David regretfully watches her ass walk out of the room with a what-a-woman! look, then says aloud: "I would NEVER yell at someone like YOU, Dixie."

ERICA'S HOUSE

Erica is on the phone gushing about O-Town (the band) and reiterates that Ashley needs to make sure he makes a big deal over Bianca. Erica is STILL not dressed for the party. She hangs up the phone and runs to answer the doorbell. It's Jackson, bearing a little gift for Bianca. Erica tells Jack it's too late to catch Bianca -- she's already left with her date and his other date. Jackson (head-bobbing): "I'm sorry?" Erica: "Exactly. Well, believe me, you don't want to know about it -- it's way too upsetting, especially after the ghastly day I had today!" She pauses and bats her eyes at Jack, waiting for him to take the bait and respond. He doesn't. Erica: "Well, never mind!" Jackson: "Okay." He grins, but Erica pretends not to notice he was playing with her by NOT playing with her. Erica looks coquettishly downcast and says: "Well, suffice it to say that I told my date that I no longer needed his help." Jackson: "I see. Well, then Erica, I guess I'll see you at the party then." He grins and pretends not to notice her passive-aggressive bid for his services and starts to walk out. Erica stops him and says: "Oh, Jack, wait! That reprehensible Brooke isn't waiting in the car for you, is she?" [BWAHAHAHA!!!] Jack makes faces and rolls his eyes and head and finally says, with exaggerated patience, that no, she's NOT. Erica: "Oh so you DON'T have a date for tonight?" Jack: "No, but I have the feeling I'm about to." Erica is thrilled at his quickness -- she always liked that about him. He says she's not really dressed for the occasion, and she tells him she'll be down in a minute. Jack: "Oh, sure you will! Where do you keep your copy of War and Peace?" Erica laughs delightedly and tells him he's so funny! Jack sits down in front of Erica's portrait, grabs an apple and sits back to relax for a while.

VALLEY INN DINING ROOM

Waiters are setting tables and guests are starting to arrive. A busboy seem to be staring at the trio. Greenlee is worried that the busboy is one of Wade's men. Bianca looks around the room and appears to be on the verge of hurling with anxiety. Leo asks if she's all right. Hyperventilating, she says she doesn't think she can do this and if she doesn't get out of there right now, she thinks she's going to THROW UP! [I told you] Bianca rushes out and Leo starts to follow, but Greenlee grabs his arm and stops him.

AN EASTERN EUROPEAN HOSPITAL

The nurse pulls a hypodermic needle out of one of Jake's body parts. [That must have been some kind of shot, because the suction caused by her pulling it out was pretty loud -- from the sound of it, I fully expected some of his guts to be sticking to the wall] Jake continues to breathe hard and fast, but seems to be reacting slightly to the shot as Joe grimly grins. Gillian walks out of the room and over to Ryan. He asks her what she told Jake.

On the next AMC:

Ryan asks Gillian if she's falling in love with Jake.

Leo incredulously asks Greenlee: "What exactly do you expect me to do if Wade shows up?" Greenlee (smiling charmingly): "Save my butt!"

As an endless stream of what appear to be hoodlums enter the Valley Inn dining room, Erica announces the entrance of O-Town from ABC's hit show, "Making of the Barf--er Band"!

Ashley o' O-Town asks Bianca for a dance.
